Lots of people who don't care anymore, but some that are great.

ProsIf you are willing to work hard and grow, there is usually work to do.

ConsNo matter what you do, you will get a pay cut every year until you quit or congress suddenly starts getting along.
Furlough, Shutdown, Sequester - every year you make less.

ProsExcellent employment benefits. The government does pay your transportation and cost when selected for overseas or stateside as long as the agency agrees. Of the years with DOD, My wife and I spent two tours in Korea, and three in Germany. Also Pa, Al, Ky.

ConsManagement is top heavy. Promotions are still the good ole boy

ProsPromotions basically depend upon you, and where you are working. Pay, is above normal, and it does allow for personal growth through training, responsibility and leadership.

ConsPeople that need to be fired are usually transferred with a promotion.

Best Place for a Veteran

ProsHands down. The Dept of Defense is one of the best places to work in this day in age.
Best pay for lower level jobs.

ConsThere is alot of mandatory yearly training but hey I guess thats any where you go.

ProsOffice culture is highly structured, work-life balance is on the average side, and leadership is highly alegant towards stakeholders motives as well as having latitude to compensate for lower echelons occasional requests

ConsPromotions are on-time and on merit (positive), Training is always emphasied (positive), Benefits are rated on the 80% (positive) - on this basis and fronts there really are no cons
