Great company - flexible with a lot of perks

Retirement Actuarial Analyst (Current Employee)
Boston, MA (US)

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time for more than 3 years

ProsPeople are outgoing; very flexible about schedules; free fruit and soda; try to give younger associates client contact as quickly as possible

ConsDon't do a great job allocating resources efficiently; some senior associates show appreciation and some don't; clients come first which can mean a demanding environment

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Smart people, creative people, and people who listen to new ideas.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time for more than a year

ProsI enjoy the flexibility of working hours, the office space itself and its convenient downtown location, the ability to suggest your own work and be creative, and the willingness of upper management to hear out one's ideas.

ConsTangible rewards & recognitions for excellent work don't always happen.

IT. A properly working PC with the software I require to do my job is unfortunately an uphill battle here, instead of the standard.

Advice to Senior ManagementIT, politely put, is a disaster --- with more rules, regulations and red tape by the day. I recognize the need for security and minimizing risk, but there is a lack of proactive problem-solving ability and customer service, and this can impact one's ability to work.

That aside, nearly everything about this company is awesome.

Worst local leadership team ever

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Towers Watson

ProsIf I have to say something: Fruits for employees. This is the only thing worth saying. Nothing good comes from this company in Brazil.

ConsThe leaders have no ethics and are always trying to manipulate everything. Line managers are being promoted without any knowledge on the practice they are responsible for. I'm ashamed to have this company in my curriculum.

Advice to Senior ManagementGlobal leadership team should evaluate the local managers and apply punishment for unethical behaviors.

Thrive on mediocrity

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I worked at Towers Watson full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIf you have had a mediocre career, but have the ability to take other peoples ideas, grab leads before the right person with the right skills does, and promote yourself and synch up with upper management, then this is place for you!

ConsStill having problems with the merger from 2010. Old Towers Perrin culture reigns in the Talent, Rewards, and Communications practice. Not very talented people get ahead, as long as they play the politics right. They don't recognize talent. Consultants are way overworked, and they don't pay as well as the big 4 consulting firms.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should take your own advice that you give to your clients.

Great company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Towers Watson

ProsVery client focused, constantly generating revenue

ConsIn certain positions there are no room for growth. The merge is not fully complete, still feels like it's two companies instead of one.

Rocky place to work, Nice surroundings, great training, lack of follow-up

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Richardson, TX (US)

I have been working at Towers Watson for more than 3 years

ProsSome can make it to other jobs, the working environment is pleasant as far as the building as it is new and the desks are large, great people on the teams

ConsNo concern for the people who work there, fear is used as an incentive, no marketing plans, everything is done on a wing and a prayer. You are not looked at for advancement unless you have been buttering up the supervisors or have another type of connection. Great work means nothing. There is never a safe feeling and there is no idea in management about how the process really works. Supervisors are not licensed and can offer little help. No forward thinking, just jump in the water and see what hapens

Advice to Senior ManagementUse great project management and SWOT on your projects, people should not be advanced unless they have the education and experience. Think the campaigns through to the end. Use focus groups more often. The Benefit Advisors experience guide you. Use background checks on everyone.
