Great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Towers Watson

ProsFlexible environment, smart people to work with. Generally provides for good career opportunity if you are self-driven, speak up and network. Provides for mobility opportunities as well (but you need to be proactive about it).

ConsCulture change since merger. Has lessened flexibility around being autonomous in decision making. Managers are not alwasy appropriately trained to take on leadership roles and as such, large differences exist between treatment of people across groups.

Not a company to work for.

Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time for less than a year

ProsPeople are polite and you can work from home. That is about the extent of it.

ConsThis company is so archaic, it is frightening. And they believe they are "in touch" with the world as it is today. Guess again.

Advice to Senior ManagementMove to the future, take a stand and set some clear direction.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

My time at Towers Watson was underwhelming and generally unsatisfactory.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Boston, MA (US)

I worked at Towers Watson as an intern for less than a year

ProsThe people were very nice and accommodating. The company is well organized given the recent merge between Towers Perrin and Watson Wyatt.

ConsPeople weren't very competitive. The culture wasn't as aggressive and geared towards high-performance as I'd like.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement ought to formalize its hierarchy more so that assignments are clear and consistent. A more formalized training program also would be helpful and might lead the more senior people to delegate work more efficiently than they currently are.

Top 3 professional experiences

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Towers Watson as a contractor for more than 3 years

Pros- tons of opportunities for personal & professional development
- smart people
- interesting work
- autonomy
- flexibility (work from home very accepted)

Cons- inconsistent leadership across business units; some leaders don't communicate, others do
- risk aversion to telling people realities of change post-merger lead to many frustrated & disengaged associates

Advice to Senior ManagementBe open - give your very smart people the benefit of the doubt - deliver tough messages without sugar coating, those who don't accept it don't belong there in the long run.

Company full of smart people

Business Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time for more than 10 years

ProsMy group is full of hardworking smart people who are genuine in their commitment to clients. People live the company values: Clients first, collaboration, professional excellence, integrity and respect.

ConsI would like to see more communication between groups. There have been some post-merger growing pains but I feel we are now getting to be one integrated company.

Nice management, great work life balance, approachable colleagues

Project Management Associate (Former Employee)

I worked at Towers Watson full-time for more than a year

ProsYou can reach out to anyone when you need help. The management is down to earth, you can easily approach them if you need to tell them something important or whether you'd like to have a nice chat with them. Basically, you can see the core values in action.

ConsAs far I'm concerned, I do not see any cons at all.

Glorified secretary, occasionally does basic arithmetic

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time

ProsGood people here if you can find them but they have all left.
With the amount of people gone now, if you are a junior client consulting analyst you are able to go to client meetings in your first year, but is that really a good trade-off?

ConsYour hard work is rewarded with more admin and coordination work. Most of your day is spent chasing people and writing up invoice summaries.
Juniors are expected to only do admin and billing for about 3-4 years until you make consultant. When you bring this up to managers, they only solidify that sentiment and ask you to be patient.
Low compensation.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about why your analysts are leaving.
Think about the business model, loyalty is not a business model in this paradigm shift.
There is a gap between all levels of employees. What you think works may not work for your junior tier.
