I worked at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

i worked for tj maxx for 10 yrs everything was good and then i was told to resign or get fired over something stupid

    Cons

lazy associates and arrogant district managers. alot of back stabbing. you cannot trust anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

take care of people that work hard and dont listen to everyone and make judgements. District managers think they can treat people like dirt. listen to all sides of a story before you make a judgement. what goes around comes around remember karma.

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Were able to work around your schedule, the work you do kept you busy, some managers were nice & taught you a lot of things. You were never set doing one thing so you got training in a lot of areas.

    Cons

Hated the fact you always had to push for credit cards & that managers would interrupt your conversation with costumers over the headset to tell you to ask them for a credit card. I was a refunder & I hated that one manager always made me look dumb in front of the customers like if I was following the rules and procedures he would make the customer feel like they could get one over on the store. If you make rules FOLLOW them, you don't change them on a situation basis, whats right is right, whats wrong is wrong!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Worry less about money & more about your employees then maybe your store would look better & your employees would be happier & want to come to work.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I am thankful I have a job. Have seen a lot of managers come and go and employees some are missed others not so much .Tjmaxx is closed thanksgiving, After 20 years you get 5 weeks vacation.

    Cons

management is so busy worried about credit card apps, unions coming in,and keeping the pay of employees down,
Yes we know that your bonuses are made on the store stats. And if you do not make your numbers you will be shipped off to an under performing store where yes you will only receive your salary.Company values are $ not employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

store manager something is broken.May god save us all if u become a DM. You are rude, the way you treat the staff is disgraceful.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Weekly pay, great co-workers, nice customers.

    Cons

I don't mind asking for credit cards, but they also don't mind you lying to obtain one either, as in not disclosing that it is in fact a credit card they are applying for, which is unacceptable to me. When I was hired I was told to ask, but there was no quota to keep, so I would get just one a month just to keep them off my back. But then the DM was apparently sending them "nasty" emails, so they threaten to coach who ever wasn't getting any. Besides that among other things I'm pounding the pavement to find employment else where. It was great at first but its time for me to go.

    Pros

    - make your own schedule

    - team atmosphere, able to develop associates and assistant managers

    Cons

    - long hours, little work life balance
    - low pay for associates ( hard to hire)
    - work falls on management to accomplish because of inability to attract motivated folks for minimum wage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay associates more and give them a career path

I have been working at TJ Maxx

    Pros

Most people are friendly and people correct your work in a polite manner.
    Coworkers are very friendly.

    Cons

The tasks asked are so simple that you will get in for your shift and hope it is over after just about a half hour.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is ok but schedules should be made at a slower pace.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive Pay and Benefits, Motivation on Associate Level, Job Security, Room for Growth

    Cons

Lots of seasoned employees not accepting change, long-term uneducated management that don't get reprimanded for their actions, company may be growing to fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognition by district and regional staff is scarce. Demanding goals are met, but not thanking when they are, only reprimanding when they aren't. Please value all your employees on every level.

    Pros

Coworkers are very nice and most of the customers you encounter, flexible schedule

    Cons

Poor pay for the work you do, management needs training on relations with their employees, I do not recommend working for this company unless you have too. Everyone is unhappy there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to treat your employees with respect. Maybe once you learn how to run a business you can keep your employees from resigning.
