Mississauga, ON

Current Employee – been working at Sunrise Senior Living full-time for less than a year

ProsThe residents are truly the reason the employees of Sunrise go to work; we enjoy giving and providing a comfortable home for these respectable elders of ours. The general care managers and staff truly work together to help one another and this can be reflected in the care they provide; the best.

Cons- The higher positioned staff or so called Coordinators have a definite lack of care or acknowledgement of the work being done by their employees. Those who have worked there for years are not given proper incentive to be giving the care they do.
- Wages are a huge con
- Such strict policies and budgets in the dining area cause problems with ordering and sufficient food supplies.

Advice to Senior ManagementTurnover rates at my current home have drastically increased, indicating there has been some negative changes. I have noticed a huge different in the way things have been done in the past year and see residents unhappy with these changes. Maybe truly ensuring your coordinators, not just ED's, are performing to the best of their abilities should be mandate for your company.... because I truly see they are not performing as headquarters would hope.

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Golden Valley, MN (US)

Former Employee – worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time for less than a year

ProsWorking in a beautiful community and home for wonderful residents. Seeing them on a daily basis is a joy. Helping them and their families is very rewarding.

ConsPoor management, lack of leadership and poor communication. A lack of integrity and honesty in the management team. Overpromising and underdelivering the families looking for quality care for their loved ones. Promising core values and principles of service that are not practiced. Putting on a show for upper managment when they visit, which does not depict a true picture of how things are on a day to day basis. Very poor morale and employees are afraid to speak up about their concerns out of fear of reprisal or retaliation from those in charge.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's unfortunate that management is not opening their eyes to the real issues in this community. This location will not succeed until the leadership changes. With a lack of due diligence and the dishonesty that portraits a false display of leadership, things will not change. Based on my experience, I would not recommend anyone to work at that location, nor would I recommend someone to live there. In time, the truth will always prevail.

Chicago, IL (US)

Current Employee – been working at Sunrise Senior Living full-time for more than 8 years

ProsWorking in a home-like enviroment. The communities are so well decorated and maintained.
Working with Seniors- resident centered care
Sunrise hires such great people to work at the communities, hire very qualified Directors

ConsLong hours, lots of demands
Regional is not very supportive
NOI margins are very high
New roll outs, over and over again
Vacation time max out is 120 hours and then does not accrue anymore

Advice to Senior ManagementBe a support to the communitites and offer positive feedback. Too many negative people in regional support office. Unrealistic expectations.
