I have been working at Sun Microsystems

    Pros

I work in technical field support... the effort and assistance that other tech support engineers provide to each other is wonderful...lots of sharing and support when your stuck onsite at 2am with a RAID controller that wont recognize any disks...Pretty good knowledgebase with record of previous calls and root cause summaries with work arounds

    Cons

There are simpy too many layers of management... our backline technical support is too weak to actually help with problem escalations in the field... the remaining Product technical support engineers are too busy and it has impacted customer satisfaction. Hence the decline in revenue and customer sales and loss of service contracts...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Layoff some fat in middle-management

    I worked at Sun Microsystems

    Pros

Was acquired by Oracle. It was a great place to work for. Innovative company. Globally dispersed workforce. Flexibility to work from anywhere. Strongly encouraged working from home or remote cutting down on operational cost for the company

    Cons

Slow to adopt to new market trend. Inconsistent leadership direction. Compensation was on par with market. But struggled to keep the talent due to constant decline in its market position. Benefits were on par with most orgnaizations in the industry
