I have been working at Stop & Shop

    Pros

This is a good job for students, flexible hours and most associates are fairly young.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement, takes years to become a full-time employee and you must be willing to be transferred to any store within a 50 mile radius while receiving minimal pay. Management is a bit over the top in how it pushes certain promotions, hours have been cut across the board and all stores are very lightly staffed, so when your working its pretty rough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more front end employees, having 2 registers running the front at 5pm is a travesty.

    Pros

Good benefits and employee discounts. Sick and vacation time is also apart of the package.

    Cons

Work and life balance is any thing but balanced. Some upper management lack leadership skills and positive reinforcement tactics.

I worked at Stop & Shop (more than 5 years)

    Pros

flexible scheduling, easy to get shifts covered, weekly paycheck, plenty of breaks, holiday pay, earned vacation/personal days. easy job to balance amongst school, other jobs, social life, promotions within (kind of)

    Cons

little-to-no room for raises (because it is union). I worked for this company for 7 years and still only made 9$/hr and worked in every department as they needed me. It becomes frustrating when you are working in the pharmacy earning the same wage as a bagger.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The work was easy, I got a week of paid vacation after one year, and it was an interesting to place to observe people I did and didn't know in my community. I had a great relationship with my last manager; he was very open about discussing the decisions he made and had to make with how he chose to run the store.

    Cons

Management changed frequently and some managers were much less friendly than other. Part time supervisors did a poor job of distributing work among clerks and sometimes played favorites. Expectations for quality of work were inconsistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more clear and realistic about how well and timely tasks should be completed. Hire people who are self-motivated. Lighten up.
