Current Employee – been working at State Farm full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – - Benefits
- Paid sick days
- Co-workers are easy to get along with as we all share the same frustration with poor management.
Cons – - Poor section management leadership and lack of foresight in dealing with staffing.
- Fire Claims and Casualty is constantly understaffed.
- Section Management has not let Fire Claims Central employees make lateral transfers for over half a year now.
- Non-competitive wages compared to other Canadian insurance companies such as RBC, TD, etc.
- Unfair practices and double standards held against certain employees.
- Section Management frequently makes decisions that do not make sense to employees beneath them.
- Section and Team Management only work 36:15 a week while staff below them work 40-45+hours a week.
- Employees are frequently out of service level objects because management refuses to hire more staff.
- Management seems to think the solution to all problems is to increase burden on current employees.
- Very high turn over rate in FCC and Field as management has ignored deep rooted staffing problems for a very long time.
Advice to Senior Management – Clear out the current section managers and allow fresh people to come in to management, which might be difficult considering the high turn over rate. Current section management is not concerned about the policy holder or their employees below, or so it seems.

Current Employee – been working at State Farm
Pros – State Farm is a really good company with great work life balance. However they do not pay well compared to similar companies and the opportunity for growth takes a really long time.
Cons – Great work life balance
Very flexible work hours
Great people
Advice to Senior Management – They should recognize talent and nurture then early. Pay well to talented employees to keep them from leaving.

Former Employee – worked at State Farm full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Even though I worked for an agent and not directly for State Farm, the support is there and you can tell they care. I enjoyed most company functions and they people there.
Cons – Some of the expectations of a small, scratch agency can be a bit unrealistic. I don't think there is anything wrong with lofty goals but hitting a certain number of applications in one year for just one line of insurance shouldn't make or break your entire career.
Advice to Senior Management – It's great to celebrate and reward the agents when things are going good - this is not an excuse to berate them or play mind games when numbers are down.
