Former Employee – worked at Starr Companies full-time for more than 7 years

Pros – I spent 5 years with Starr and had a very enjoyable experience. The people are smart, efficient and problem solvers. A great environment!

Cons – By 2010 many senior executives from AIG came over, possibly after waiting for some of the scandal "dust" to settle. With this came the old boys network I had wanted to avoid.
And things simply deteriorated from there.

Advice to Senior Management – To back to problem solving and creative solutions. You were so good at it. Now, all I saw was indecision and finger pointing

Cons – Incompetent management
Lack of vision and direction
Competition across management yields a fractured organization
Fear-based actions result in poor solution decisions

Advice to Senior Management – Leverage the resources and staff at hand
Think outside of the box
Accepting risk is a strategy

Pros – Challenging work, work independently, good benefits

Cons – IT is inferior to similar companies of same size and revenue. Majority of managerial staff share small offices. Sr staff are AIG old timers, who are close minded. Extremely political. Big Egos.

Advice to Senior Management – Be open minded and let AIG go. Stop behaving like a bunch of high school girls bashing each other.

Pros – The company sticks to its core business, understands their products, and how their products fit their client's needs.

Cons – The lack of an adequate financial/accounting reporting system doesn's allow the company to make quick and accurate decisions about their products.
