Current Employee - Intern in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Very friendly work environment where hard work is recognised. It was simple to approach employees in different departments to know more about what they do on a day to day basis.

    Cons

Experienced first hand that bureaucracy does affect the work ethics of employees. Lengthy processes that could otherwise be shortened dissuade employees to take on more responsibility.

Current Employee - Preferred Relationship Manager in Karāchi (Pakistan)

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits, Self management of approach and results, Rewards and awards for hard work - effort counts.
Best feature - if you have an amazing idea and a plan behind it, and if you can go to the executives directly (bypassing your boss if he's an idiot), then they will listen to you and support you.

    Cons

Your experience depends entirely on the Branch manager and Regional head - there were some great and terrible ones in the mix. But no one can take away your rewards or benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the siloed thinking within each segment, function and division.
Allow low level employees (at the grassroots level) to feel comfortable in approaching executives for improvement ideas.
Create opportunity for employee to voice innovative ideas - through a competition or dropbox.
