A young person's view of the company

Financial Analyst III (Former Employee)
Rosemead, CA (US)

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time for more than 5 years

ProsNice people who have a lot of experience and will generally teach you a lot
Company has great work-life balance, usually many opportunities to volunteer
affinity groups are a nice way to meet new people
Great pay
Good values and culture: generally people take pride in working for the customers, their neighbors and friends and will work to keep the rates low

ConsDeclining interesting projects, as solar encroaches on the grid, SCE's business model needs innovation
Lack of advancement opportunities
Low expectations lead to low engagement

Engineering Intern Interview

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Southern California Edison as an intern

ProsLots of great benefits, had the opportunity to go on field and see equipment from time to time instead of staying in the office all day, fun people to work with, very safety conscious

Consa lot of politics involved, a lot of people hired as managers because they had good connections but not necessarily the qualifications, not very innovative

Great Internship

Intern (Current Employee)

I have been working at Southern California Edison as an intern for more than 3 years

ProsLots of professional experience in the power industry. They do things thoroughly and safely. A lot of intelligent hardworking people, and a few very good managers. If you do good work, and produce value you have very excellent job security, the power industry is quite stable.

ConsSlow growth. Sometimes there is a lot of politics among managers. A lot of slack in the company with extra departments and middle management. They recently cleaned house and eliminated a lot of unnecessary employees.

Moving up in the company can be a slow process, since it is a lifelong career

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the excellent quality and safety management but eliminate some of the bureaucracy

Southern California Edison Experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Rosemead, CA (US)

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIt is a nice company to work for. It has good benefits and there is an attempt to stick to core values.

ConsAt the time of my separation they were in destruction mode figuring out what to do. I am not aware of what stage they are in now, hopefully in construction mode.

Advice to Senior ManagementDepend more on employees than external consultants, given the opportunity they can handle the work. Do not do layoffs by numbers rather but by values people bring in and their potential.

IT is going through managed services. It's a very stressful time knowing my job will be gone...

IT Specialist (Current Employee)
Irwindale, CA (US)

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe company offers competitive pay and good benefits.

ConsMany IT professionals have or will lose their jobs. The senior leaders don't seem to care about IT employees anymore. I

Advice to Senior ManagementAsk IT employee if they are willing to take a cut pay. Keep more jobs in US instead of sending our jobs to India. Look into the entire company to cut the people are not doing good jobs. It's not fair for IT.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time for more than 3 years

ProsMany good employees! They want to do a good job and are loyal to Edison.

ConsManagement view of women is retro to the 1960's. Be quiet and be subservient, you may escape the arbitrary judgement of upper management.
Values are defined, but do not apply senior, illustrated on a daily basis.
