I worked at Sephora part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Gratis is awesome, usually the team of employees are just as down to earth as you would imagine them to be. Brand reps that come into the store for training usually end up making the product experience a whole lot better.

    Cons

    Management sucks, Pay is worse

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A skin care consultant shouldn't have to wear 65 products on their face if they are trying to sell ... skin care.

    Respectful environment
    Fun atmosphere
    Good part time hours

    Cons

The pay structure is terrible for the cosmetics industry
Can only bonus if the entire store does well
Touch base before each shift is so annoying
    No commission

I have been working at Sephora part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Of all the terrible retail jobs out there, this one is one of the better places to work. But expect to work extremely hard with little pay or reward. Also expect to work full-time hours as a part-timer, this way you get no benefits.

    Cons

Pay is beyond terrible, gratis is great but gratis doesn't pay the bills. Raises even for excellent employees are terrible, with a few cents raise every year. It's a joke. The turnover is out of control because smart people leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep the good employees then the pay should equal the work done. You're not even close

I have been working at Sephora full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company is grounded on 7 values and they are celebrated each day. Cast members feel valued and are set up for success for growth within the company. They are trained to eventually achieve what they aim to be in the future. Lots of training and education, and bonuses are based on store sales and not on individual commission so there's teamwork.

    Cons

Pay is average, i expected it to be a bit higher since the company is under the Louis Vuitton umbrella.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hiring the right people for the job. Lots of cast members are only there for a few months and are not worth the investment for training.

I have been working at Sephora full-time

    Pros

    Gratis
    Good pay for minimum work

    Cons

If you are not in colour, you are not respected by anyone. At all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect the people who make sure the floor runs smoothly. There is a reason why there is an extremely high turnover rate in Sephora stores. Favoritism runs rampant and is so blatantly obvious, it's disgusting.

I worked at Sephora as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Receiving free products and learning about beauty products

    Cons

Low hourly rate; on your feet for 8 hours; forced to approach clients with a fake smile and canned intro lines; not allowed to let your own personality show; reprimanded without thorough explanation of what you did wrong

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a current client of Sephora: employees should be encouraged to be themselves - this will make the experience more personal for clients; Clients should be allowed to browse without being tailed by sales people; employees who are paid well and treated like individuals do a better job...

    Pros

lots of free product, some staff was awesome, you got to be free with looks and hair color.

    Cons

Not much room for growth, promoted externally, the uniforms were not comfy, demanding needy clients, some people were petty and lots of drama

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees and do not hold friendships they make in the workplace against them
