I worked at Save the Children full-time for more than a year

    Pros

One of the largest international NGO, so good career development for the humanitarian worker. Pretty good compensation and benefits in the industry, but nor sure if Save the Children International has the same level of compensation now.

    Cons

sometimes need to face hardship at field offices like Haiti and Iraq. Especially, if you have family, it would not be easy to choose non-family post.

I have been working at Save the Children full-time

    Pros

Growing fast, mostly nice people, great mission as nonprofit

    Cons

Leadership changed a lot during past years and create much instability; bureaucracy widely exists as a large organization; this organization intends to hire less people for more work so you work can either be overloaded or delayed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management team is far away from most of the employees.

I worked at Save the Children for more than 5 years

    Pros

'intelligent co-workers who are for the most part friendly

    Cons

-poor top management decision-making, constant changing of strategy
    -too many unproductive meetings
-very political, its who you know rather than your job performance
-low pay which is the norm but some make good salaries here for many years and do not produce while others have -heavy workload which is never questioned
-some have 'work from home' privileges but others do not making it very unfair
-questionable account practices and use of 'preferred' vendor's who overcharged but is it overlooked because theyhave an 'in' with someone in top management

I have been working at Save the Children full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Save the Children is one of the pinnacle leaders in the humanitarian industry. The leadership is transparent about decision making. I get respect when I tell people I work for Save the Children. I have traveled to some amazing places in my career here and met some amazing people. I have learned a lot in my time here.

    Cons

While Save the Children's revenue last year was 640 million only a small portion of that revenue is in the form of unrestricted/ undesignated funds. Consequently the organization is constantly having to make hard choices when it comes to funding operations.. Some people lost their jobs last year because of it.

Because all international operations were consolidated into a separate organization (Save the Children International) there are less international career opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase undesignated funding. Find ways for young professionals to build an international career.

I have been working at Save the Children full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Amazing mission
Truly changing lives around the world
Diversity of Staff really keeps you interested in the work.
    Seriously qualified staff

    Cons

Leadership positions are constantly vacating and being restaffed
This leads to multiple strategy changes
Salaries are not near competitors in NYC or other metro areas
Typical Bureaucratic issues when trying to accomplish a project

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Exit interviews with leaving staff should be considered. Stop hiring executives that are fly by night and using STC as a stepping stone. Great mission deserves great dedicated people
