I have been working at San Jose State full-time for more than a year

Pros – Very open and diverse environment, the campus is beautiful and the focus on innovation is wonderful. I love the willingness of the City of San Jose to partner with the SJSU and what they accomplish when they work together.

Cons – Limited personnel to provide services. Services and departments operate very independently; it can be difficult for unity and collaboration to occur between them. The walk from the parking garages to your actual office can be lengthy. :)

Advice to Senior Management – Permit a more flexible scheduling option

Pros – Any student(anyone has a class registered ) can get a job in across campus

Cons – Payroll is way too slow

Pros – Great campus – You will love walking around the campus and appreciate it's beauty.. Friendly staff. Good people that you'll look forward to seeing on a daily basis.

Cons – Not much opportunity for advancement unless you're on some type of planning committee. Sometimes the homeless people that walk around campus can become a distraction/nuisance.

Advice to Senior Management – Stop the bureaucracy – There's too much waste when there are so many levels to go through when you need something done or fixed from upper management.

Pros – If you qualify for work-study, you get good pay for low-stress work.

Cons – Very little accountability
Not challenging enough

Cons – No salary increases in years. Lack of respect for staff, because they focus on students and faculty. New job positions are "low-balling" the salaries.

Pros – People believe in the mission of providing higher education. High emphasis on technology, student services, removing unwanted red tape, communication and empowering people to find solutions (self service).

Cons – Motivation, story telling, engaging everyone (some people are always MIA), numerous changes in management, no salary raise in 5+ years

Advice to Senior Management – 1. Develop metrics for assessment based on results
2. Identify opportunities to engage over achievers
3. Less meetings
