I have been working at Safeway

    Pros

The friendliness of fellow employees who express caring and sincerity amongst thier peers.

    Cons

Long hours, very poor quality of life, totally uncaring senior executives that are only interested in placating stockholders while coninually treating employees poorly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come and work a month in the trenches, you've completely lost touch with the reality of day to day issues within the workplace.

I worked at Safeway part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I found the training to be sufficient. Management worked well with the hourly employees. In general it was a very positive place to work.

    Cons

Room temperature always seemed too cold. Some employees never knew from week to week what their hours would be (i.e., 6:00-3:00, 7:00-4:00, 3:00-midnight etc...) This makes it hard to plan anything or schedule personal appointments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote positive attitudes by having one yourself.

I have been working at Safeway full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Scheduling was fairly flexible. Adding more employees couldn't hurt for scheduling.

    Cons

Compensation is substandard. The company pays roughly minimum wage. But what can you expect for such a mediocre position?

I have been working at Safeway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I love the discounts so that's a bonus. I also have my employee discount so it's perfect.

    Cons

I don't feel that some people leave happy sometimes. It's true it's all about the way employees treat the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't have any issues with management so they are doing a great job.

I have been working at Safeway part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Weekly paychecks, nice working environment, decent hours of operation, pension, decent health insurance, most have been remodeled to have wellness center rooms to provide immunizations and other services

    Cons

No (mandatory) lunch breaks, long hours standing, corporate always adding tasks to your already busy workload. Merging with Albertson's parent company, unsure of future
