I worked at Safeway full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The salary was lower than other firms but I really appreciated how many opportunities they gave me to move up. If you are hard working, there is plenty of growth

    Cons

It's a low margin business that is stuck in their old ways of doing things. Its hard to convince upper management to change their ways. But I have no doubt that it is very different now under new ownership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I love working here, but one thing I seriously think needs to be improved, is how employee's can check their schedule. From what I have seen and heard, most other jobs give their employee's access to an online database that allows them to check their work schedule without having to come in. Whether it be from their phones or at home on a computer. It would be really nice to have that aid, it would also ease off a little bit of stress and give less opportunity for mistakes.

Current Employee - IT Field Services in Clackamas, OR (US)

I have been working at Safeway full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are great - 5 weeks vacation is awesome after 20 years of service - sick leave is helpful as an added benefit.

    Cons

Promotions are hard to come by, there isn't much support in career growth in my field of choice- lack of effective communication between groups is a big issue - the office climate is a bit tense lately and there have been many layoffs making it feel unsafe to be here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

consider supporting your employees growth instead of creating a fear based work environment
