Pros – My upper leadership has been very involved in my growth and I have had great opportunity for advancement. In less than 1 year and a half I have grown from an Area Supervisor to Store Manager.
Cons – The last minute step reports, and communications can make daily life a bit stressful.

Current Employee – been working at Ross Stores full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Ross is always changing to meet the needs and demands of our customers. This changing environment creates new opportunities for growth and development. Every associate and manager are given tools to grow and change with the company. How far you go is up to you.
Cons – Off price retailing is very demanding. Change is the only certainty. As a leader you are challenged to control costs while delivering the standards our customers demand. As an associate you are
challenged to work quickly and efficiently.
Advice to Senior Management – Recognize the sacrifices managers and associates make to stay efficient and successful. Listen when managers say you are asking us to do too much with too little. We will rise to challenge and we will work toward our goals. Just know when the goals are too high.

Pros – It is difficult to find a retail management position that can honestly deliver a good work-life balance. At Ross, managers work a 45 hour work week, with few exceptions.
Cons – There are very high corporate standards for the stores. It can sometimes be difficult to operate a Ross store with in the payroll guidelines given.

Current Employee – been working at Ross Stores full-time
Pros – Great opportunity for advancement.
Flexible hours.
Fast paced environment.
Great recognition for great people.
Cons – "Do more with less" seems to be a constant trend.
Minimum wage for starting pay. Raises are not the greatest. New associates are only offered part-time hours making it difficult to support a family.
Management bonuses are based on reviews and non-controllables as well as time in position. That means an outstanding manager that helps turn a store around may not get a bonus, whereas an average manager who's only done the bare minimum may simply because he/she has been in position longer.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay and bonuses should reflect productivity not time in grade.
Greater flexibility with payroll would encourage outstanding associates to be more productive, increase moral, and result in a TRUE Customer Experience.

Pros – 1 weekend off a month, 1 close per week. Good work life balance.
Cons – Coming from a different retailer, significant pay cut...
Advice to Senior Management – With the kind of growth Ross is experiencing, it would add more value to pay store managers, asm/as and store level employees more money.
