Former Employee – worked at Rexam full-time for more than 7 years

ProsGreat pay & bonus structure.

ConsPoor benefits for salaried employees. Cronyism is rampant. People are told they are denied promotion because they are too valuable in current positions. Policies are applied haphazardly.

Anderson, SC (US)

Former Employee – worked at Rexam full-time for more than a year

ProsThe management and office staff are very knowledgable and helpful. They all work together as a team.

ConsThey have not followed company policies with all employees. Favoritism has been shown in certain departments and managers. Hard to get an advancement to move up the company ladder.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo not show favoritism.

ProsChallenging, some very talented people work at Rexam in BG. The facility is very nice and the equipment is state of the art.

ConsBottom line driven, do not really care about the employees, just a front for business as usual. Revolving door and high turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementRefine the diamond you have and stop growing through acquisition. The potential of the existing assets are incredible. Figure out what to do with them.

ProsHas good work balance, reasonable benefit. Top management has regular meeting with the employee and good committee on safety work environment.

ConsBusiness units are sold off or close down during the crisis. Consolidation and sustainability issue should has been analyses better to prevent it. Company has quite a bit of debt.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue with the good work. Overall good management. Could create more identity for all sites instead of only a few site in Europe and Latin America.

Franklin, IN (US)

Current Employee – been working at Rexam

ProsRexam is the 800 lbs gorilla of packaging. Rexam has some super competitive products in the Pharma packaging sector. Rexam's former OI plastics knowledge base continues to be a beneficial force. The Franklin facility works with employees in most any family, medical or personal situation as far as time or working around issues. The low turn over at the Franklin facility provides a degree of stability.

ConsRexam's purchase of OI has allowed some unsavory elements to take advantage of the situation in Franklin. Education, Job Performance, and Experience are irrelevant at the Franklin facility. A small clique with limited outside experience, formal education or technical knowledge controls the facility. Recognition for a job well done is non existent. Age, Sex, and Racial discrimination are arguably rampant. I am a white male and uncomfortable with this. If you like "nepotism" Rexam Franklin is the organization for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease avoid the organized tours of the Franklin Facility. Visit the plant "unannounced" on Friday afternoons preferably so you can see how the plant management is noticeably absent from day to day operations.

Ask workers at Rexam Franklin questions, WITHOUT PLANT MANAGEMENT (the clique) present. The plant management has been known to punish people for giving honest answers to senior managers after they left.

Please insist that senior plant level managers achieve some degree of education before achieving the title of "manager". Most "managers" in Franklin do not have any more than a High School education, while their subordinates often have associates, bachelor degrees, and are continuing their education. Achieving any level of education in Franklin is actually a counter productive career move.
