    Pros

You'll make some decent money because of all the hours you'll put in... while putting your family and life on hold.

    Cons

Management likes to hold phone conference meetings 2 to 3 times a day ,sometimes almost threatening to fire you or like they like to say to everybody while on conference : "if you don't like it here get another job", this is constantly happening.. that's how they like to motivate people.. they send you sometimes to do 2 men job on you own, love to deceive customers. 0 life balance. No matter how hard you work you are always overlooked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize those that there are employees that really care about customers and work very hard to get things done and recognized but you guys always have either family working within that get promoted without even knowing the English language to communicate, ignoring performance. CEO should look into the Queens N.Y. District and make serious changes.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, and advancement opportunity if you're willing to work into a management level job, other workers were underpaid however. Learned a great deal while here that has helped me in a variety of different roles.

    Cons

Long hours, no weekends off unless you take vacation time. Upper management was very disconnected from the store level. Very hard to hire new employees due to pay rate being significantly below that of other local employers, rather than work on a plan to fix this issue, additional pressure was put on store management to fill gaps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a page out of your competitors business model, compartmentalize duties. Hire delivery staff, collections staff, sales staff and cut down to a normal work week. Do better research prior to entering new markets, you had a gold mine sitting there for the taking in Minot ND but entered two much less lucrative markets rather than putting a location there.

    Pros

Great Co-Workers, Interesting Work, Employee Purchase Option

    Cons

Hours (12 plus hour days), No Work-Life Balance, Low Pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You talk about work-life balance but there is none! Adding 1-2 more staff to the stores will allow for split schedules that will allow staff to get home at a decent hour to spend time with the kids. There is no reason to make employees work an open to close every day because Im sure you don't!

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rent-A-Center has to be,by far, the worse company I have ever work with. The training process takes about 3-5 weeks to end up doing exactly the opposite of what you have learn. Your store manager wants you to become pushy salesman and the most ruthless collection agent known to man. And don't bother calling a district manager because they are the ones giving the order(according to your store manager) and if you file a complaint through HR you will never hear from them. And you will be constantly threaten that you will lose your job if you don't do as they say or meet the numbers.

This company revolves them self with numbers, both in the collections and Sales. If not kept all hell breaks lose. During my 1 year experience with RAC, I came to see a lot of employes and managers come and go for not meeting the numbers, so be ready to meet them especially if you work on the lower class area.

And in another note if you are applying for RAC, please consider the fact the you won't be home for a very long time because you are demanded to work over time (50+hrs) all the time.

    Pros

Great pay good benefit of every Sunday

    Cons

No job to home balance they cut the maximum hrs to 45hrs but all they did was allow manager to have employees come in later still leave late I see other store are doing great store morale where I work is down on the ground all coming from a egotistic control freak and no respect for no other employee opinion manager who thinks only words that counts is his then u got upper management that are aware of the situation and don't do nothing just by knowing manager has higher turn over rate in district been with company 6 month seen 5 ppl either quit or transfer out

    Pros

When they had the accounts, times were good. Some OT but not excessive. A fairly relaxed atmosphere. Limited opportunities for advancement or growth. Compensation was OK. Health Insurance became expensive.

    Cons

Upper level management in service failed to acquire new service accounts from outside vendors. They ran off the new accounts they got in 2006 by raising their rates too high. Service techs bore the brunt of the work slow downs. Too many of us wound up using our paid time off to make up for days with no work. This company operates their service like this. Slightly over staffed and you wind up with a part time job when you start to add up the hours and your pay at the end of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your failures to grow the business resulted in a lot of heart ache for technicians.

    Pros

Made good money while employed here. Rent to own is a high stress low reward business. Owners of franchise will take care of the people (if your numbers are in line).

    Cons

Long hours no life. Training needs a lot of work. Micromanaging a manager is horrible. Store in Lansing is falling apart, to small to conduct proper business for a rent to own company. Delivery truck is falling apart. Manager takes credit for everything without giving praise to those who actually accomplish goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salaried employees working 60 hours a week is bad for business. Consider giving at least one Saturday a month off.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

RAC was a people company, Mission " To improve the quality of life for our customers and our employees. They gathered suggestions from employee's to make the company better and RAC threw.

    Cons

They promoted upper lower management people to upper management. They did not have the experience or ability to be VP's. No one was watching the ship and they made some bad decisions. By the time they realized the mistakes Aarons was knocking at their door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you visit stores talk to customers, stop treating employees and ask them what needs to be done to get the business back. They have the answers! Keep your personal feeling about RAC collections procedures to yourself, this program has worked for 40 years and very time you mess with it , it costs, not only in customer loss, but also in revenue and profit. You have stopped calling fallout more times then I can remember, it does not work!
