I have been working at Reliant Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Reliant is a great place to meet friendly and excited people. Managers and leaders are approachable and do not over micro manage. Reliant is engaging in newer markets and endeavors, a rare sight in a fairly traditional industry, and there are exciting things to come.

    Cons

The current organization structure is quite terrible. A lot of organization roles are assigned out of favor or to fill in missing holes in the existing structure instead of taking a step back to seriously reconsider how to reorganize the company in preparation to do bigger and newer things. There is very little training and documentation and the IT data warehouse and processes are ill-defined, leading up to a lot of front-end inefficiencies and bottlenecks that are never addressed over the years.

Career progression is not out of merit, but very much out of favor and relationship. There are no paths to advancing in levels up the career since none of these are clearly stated or presented to employees. You will have to do more than doing good work, and network in order to advance for the work that you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously reconsider the current organization structure of the business. Understand that the IT/data weaknesses of the company will be the greatest bottleneck of the company as all industries/companies are moving fast paced into a very efficient/automated future.

Performance review in its current state is in a bad state. It feels a lot more like a deadline to fill in a paper document instead of a real development process. Managers should be focused on helping grow people through these performance reviews instead of receiving documents to be passed to HR.

    Pros

Be able to make a lot of money. Gives you customer service experience. Be able to meet new people everyday. Opportunity to move up.

    Cons

There really isn't any bad things about. I mean if you're lazy, this isn't the job for you. You gotta be able to take rejection. The better the salesmanship, the better you're going to be in this business.
