I have been working at Regions Financial full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

friendly atmosphere with the branch, bankers hours (decent work/life balance)

    Cons

Most employees are looking for any way to escape, no chance of promotion within the company, high level of disconnect with upper management, antiquated technology, strong push towards sales only mindset, lofty sales goals that are unachievable unless you are in a high volume branch, benefits are expensive and cover next to nothing, just a job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop driving out employees with lack or staffing, low pay, and no chance of a "career". Give the employees any reason to want to work hard for you (compensation, career growth) or you will continue to lose all of your capable employees that have not settled in for the long haul in thier current position

I have been working at Regions Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I've worked for this company for over 5 years. The atmosphere is great. There are a lot of wonderful associates. The job isn't difficult if you are willing to work hard.

    Cons

The pay is not great, especially if you are promoted within. The company has gone to a more sales approach, where it is very pushy. Banking has changed a lot in the last few years and I feel like Regions is trying to figure out how handle the change by throwing a lot of different micro management procedures at their associates. In return, morale is being lost and people are leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out an approach and stick with it. If you are constantly changing how you want us to do things, we will stay frustrated. It's hard to stay positive when we don't know the direction we're going in.

    Pros

Regions was a great place to work for. There are a lot of great people at the branches. Moving up takes a little bit of time but they do promote from within.

    Cons

Pay isn't as competitive as you would get at another financial institution.

I worked at Regions Financial full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The associates at Regions are the best. The company has a strong culture and very loyal associates. Very generous benefits and vacations. Good work environment.

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement beyond branch management. Nearly impossible to move out of consumer banking. Company would rather hire outside candidates than qualified internal candidates. Compensation is terrible, as are raises. Sales goals are very high. Bankers are expected to sell, sell, sell and make outbound phone calls on a weekly basis. Company has reached quarterly financial goals by cost cutting and, boy, does it show.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Regions should look to hire candidates for positions internally rather than just giving lip service to associates. Also, banking is not all about sell, sell, sell. Sometimes it really is about taking care of customers and not trying to sell a loan, checking account or annuity. Pay more, too much greed at the top.
