They really don't care enough about their employees.

Hourly Associate (Former Employee)

I worked at Panera Bread part-time for less than a year

ProsBetter than minimum wage, 50% off of food, usually friendly coworkers, decent clientele

Consyou get sick of their overpriced/unhealthy food pretty quick, you can't call in sick you have to find someone to take your shift or else you're screwed, if it's busy and you're on cash or making the food good luck going to the washroom some managers will tell you to hold it you might as well pee yourself, they tell you they're going to promote you but they tend to drag it out as long as possible, management can sometimes play favourites, terrible training process, you don't get any benefits until you've been working there for a year straight

Advice to Senior ManagementYour turnover rate is high for a reason.

Being grateful .

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Panera Bread

ProsSalary, clean environment, training, meeting new people.

ConsManagers who don't give you credit for working hard.

Advice to Senior ManagementTeam work is very important with every position, treat others how you would like to be treated, stop allowing your long time trainers to walk around with their nose in the air, they can pick up after their selfs + can do dishes.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Warmth?

Associate (Former Employee)
Wethersfield, CT (US)

I worked at Panera Bread part-time for less than a year

ProsCoworkers are generally kind and help when you're in need of learning. Lots of free reign when helping customers allows you to put your own personal spin on customer service. Despite the cons below, customers are predominately awesome and making their day can easily make your day!

ConsSome coworkers can contribute to a very negative workplace. Similarly, management allows some associates to relax and procrastinate while making others do more than twice their typical duties. This introduces negativity as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward employees who work outside of their job duties in every way possible. Simply talking to those who do not would help, but using the power of firing negative employees would vastly improve the workplace.

You probably won't work what you applied for

Cashier (Current Employee)
Spanish Fort, AL (US)

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time

ProsGreat food and atmosphere. The employes are friendly and hard working. The company pays more than other jobs with similar requirements. 50% off discount on food.

ConsYou have to "work your way up" by learning different stations. They put you on the position that they want you rather than what you applied for. The management isn't the best.

Cool coworkers, the managers are understanding as long as you listen, but aw god the pay.

Dish Washer, Dining Room, Production Line (Current Employee)

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time for less than a year

ProsMy coworkers are fun to talk to, I have some down time where i can strike up conversations.
Managers are understanding about your feelings but do let me know things that NEED to be done.
Some customers are considerate.
Able to move around and learn how to work in different areas of the store.
50% discount on food if you're working that same day.
If you're happy doing what you do, and do a great job the managers are great to you.
Management is understanding and is flexible to let me do important things when i can't work.

Cons50% discount on the food ONLY when you work.
The pay isn't all that satisfying. 8.10 an hour.
Some customers are inconsiderate no matter how nice the morals of the company you're representing is.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow more training to those who need it, and have more talks with the associates struggling to catch up rather than letting them sink or swim. It's currently happening to a coworker.

Some great managers but low pay

Associate Trainer (Current Employee)
Madison, WI (US)

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time for more than a year

ProsMoved up to trainer very quickly,
Good discounts on food which was nice in college.
Managers look to cross train and add more responsibility which I liked

ConsPay begins around $8/hr
Closing can take much longer than planned depending on your store
Can be crazy busy over lunch
High turnover leads to extra hours

Advice to Senior ManagementPay new associates more to reduce turnover.
