    Pros

People are friendly and the utility industry is very interesting to be in. Very good benefits and if in SF very nice environment.

    Cons

Most offices are somewhat old and could use upgrading. Work can seem kind of slow.

    Advice to Management

Management can communicate better with employees, but the CEO does a excellent job at keeping employees in the loop along with the president.

    Pros

The people are great and the company cares about their people and their customers. The company is very safety conscious.

    Cons

On boarding was extremely slow. Many projects get started and then get put on hold.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a more mature enterprise architecture.

    Pros

Fantastic opportunities, for Construction, Technical and Professional Jobs. The company has really become customer focused and employee focussed with the intent to provide, fast, safe and reliable service.

    Cons

Extremely large and diverse service area, makes it pretty difficult to provide service at the most highest level to all customers in all service areas.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on maintenance and replacement of aging facilities, installation of new facilities and work closely with ESC and IBEW Unions.

    Pros

    Great benefits and work-life balance.

    Cons

Layers upon layers of bureaucracy. No room for creativity due to risk-averse culture and business model of a regulated utility.

Impossible to talk to anyone to get answers because everyone is always unavailable in meetings.

    Pros

Feelings about the company as a whole are very positive and there are a huge amount of opportunities within the company if you are ambitious and happy to move around. There are many development & training opportunities. If you are happy to stay put in a particular job as well, there are lots of folks doing just that. There is a feeling over working towards a valuable goal (providing energy to the bay area) and many of the employees are generous, friendly and helpful. HR will tell you your pay bracket if you ask after an offer. Pays well for certain fields, but not as well for others.

    Cons

Politics are huge. The other comment on how evals & STIP are done is true, which can be frustrating. The hardest workers and biggest producers are not always rewarded. It often feels like the directors are trying to further their own careers at the expense of yours. Messages from upper management are overwhelming and inconsistent and hard to enforce. RDO, telecommuting, & flexible schedule options for management employees are talked about a lot, but offered inconsistently and not generally the norm. At every level, the focus is up at the next level of management, and not down towards employees. In many departments, there are very few women in leadership positions. Women are offered lower pay, less promotional opportunities and are often treated as second class citizens.

    Advice to Management

If you want young talented workers, be more flexible, or you will lose out especially as the economy heats up. Focus on employee engagement over metrics (quality work will follow). Use feedback to get results rather than just collecting it.
