    Pros

a fine place to work - people, culture, distinctly french is a pro for sure. also being able to be part of a big network

    Cons

in montreal, we are seen as a branch office that does translation but we also do orginal work for the quebce marlet

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

encourage original work from all offices and not just french adaptation . the office needs to seen as its own identity

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather

    Pros

If you are tough enough to stick it out, and if you are truly passionate about your work, you will gain a lot of valuable experience here. There is a large roster of clients and a lot of different characters (good and bad) which will also add to your experience.

This is a great place to start an advertising career, and for the most part if you can make it here you can make it pretty much anywhere.

    Cons

Hard work and brains don't always get recognition in this large, often impersonal work environment. You have to make a lot of noise and really put yourself out there to be acknowledged. It's not for everyone.

It can sometimes be a sweat shop, with more focus on meeting deadlines and billing hours than quality of work.

There is a lot of staff turnover and a great deal of anguish to long-time employees who constantly have to pick up the slack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to discover who your most talented and most valuable employees are, and then let them know. Use those people as ambassadors of the Ogilvy way - it will go a lot further than some of the shortsighted (and thinly veiled) tactics used in the past.

Also, a little goes a long way. Offer your hardest working employees a free lunch or other small token of appreciation. Remember that there isn't a lot keeping your staff there, and it's very easy for them to be tempted by other offers in the industry.

    Pros

The people are great - smart, talented, funny, and generally awesome to be around. The people who work at Ogilvy are often times what make other people stay. Benefits are nice - we get the week between Christmas and New Year's off, which is great.

    Cons

Work-life balance is hard to achieve here. In my experience, direct managers are very appreciative of their team members but beyond that, it's very rare to be rewarded for hard work. Many people get stuck in their position for years - underpaid and overworked with little to no support. All of this depends largely on the accounts you work on, but for the most part people - especially in account management - never seem to be able to catch up because they are buried in work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep fostering good office culture, but find a way to reward and retain the best talent - otherwise, they'll keep leaving for other agencies.

    Pros

Values, culture and sense of employee camaraderie as great. Ogilvy are particularly good at leveraging their global network and you certainly feels though you are part of the worlds top agency network. Fellow employees are very talented and the high creative spirit is something that is more 'genuine' in Ogilvy than other agencies.

    Cons

Employee churn, more a function of the industry than the agency. Not an independent agency so lacks quick-footedness.

    Pros

There's a bravado that comes with working at Ogilvy. We've got big global clients, smart people, and top-notch facilities. Ogilvy does a lot to foster the culture of the agency too with frequent events, free booze, live bands, and even celebrity guest speakers.

    Cons

You realize quickly that there are so many amenities because they never want you to leave. As in, like, leave to go home. 12-hour days are normal. Good luck making any evening plans during the week, unless those plans involve co-workers and Landmark across the street, so you can come back to the office after those beers and keep working. But if you're on a good account, maybe you won't mind.

    Pros

Smart, mostly nice people. Access to A-list global client roster. Ability to big, cool work.
    Founds some amazing lifelong mentors.

    Cons

Very big - you'll need to learn how to navigate your way around and make relationships to get your work done.
You'll need to find for raises and be your own advocate.
