    Copywriter (Former Employee) Montreal, QC

Prosa fine place to work - people, culture, distinctly french is a pro for sure. also being able to be part of a big network

Consin montreal, we are seen as a branch office that does translation but we also do orginal work for the quebce marlet

Advice to Senior Managementencourage original work from all offices and not just french adaptation . the office needs to seen as its own identity

A good place for newbies to cut their teeth.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Toronto, ON

ProsIf you are tough enough to stick it out, and if you are truly passionate about your work, you will gain a lot of valuable experience here. There is a large roster of clients and a lot of different characters (good and bad) which will also add to your experience.

This is a great place to start an advertising career, and for the most part if you can make it here you can make it pretty much anywhere.

ConsHard work and brains don't always get recognition in this large, often impersonal work environment. You have to make a lot of noise and really put yourself out there to be acknowledged. It's not for everyone.

It can sometimes be a sweat shop, with more focus on meeting deadlines and billing hours than quality of work.

There is a lot of staff turnover and a great deal of anguish to long-time employees who constantly have to pick up the slack.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the time to discover who your most talented and most valuable employees are, and then let them know. Use those people as ambassadors of the Ogilvy way - it will go a lot further than some of the shortsighted (and thinly veiled) tactics used in the past.

Also, a little goes a long way. Offer your hardest working employees a free lunch or other small token of appreciation. Remember that there isn't a lot keeping your staff there, and it's very easy for them to be tempted by other offers in the industry.

A big agency which does great work for great clients.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIdeas and hard work are appreciated. A highly structured agency that has had to reinvent itself for modern media.

ConsHours can be long, pollitics and behind-the-back scheming are part of the culture, always a new face with a new idea coming through and making sweeping changes. A wonderful place while you're a favored child, and when you fall from favor you probably won't know why.

    O&M

Account Director (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsThe people, the people, the people. Super creative, smart, talented, fun people.
The commitment to health with the in-house nurse, gym and massage therapist were a nice touch and convenience.
Training opportunities--in the years they were offering them these were a huge bonus and learning opportunity.

ConsToo much work, not enough people. It's a culture where long hours and exhausted people are considered de rigeur and almost a matter of pride. Maintaining this type of environment is draining to the employees and the morale.
Also the location is awful. There is no getting around it no matter how much management tries to sugarcoat it.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to win business by promising lower prices to clients that are unrealistic.
Spend some time "in the trenches" so you can be more in touch with the majority of the organization.
Promote work/life balance and mean it.
And be honest--the whole move to the new building was handled with so much ridiculous spinning. Stop trying to spin the people who you pay to spin other people!
Stop having Christmas parties if you can't hand out raises.
Bring back training opportunities--these were extremely valuable and a unique bonus for Ogilvy.

    Great place to learn!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsReally fast paced environment with high expectations teaches you to perform to the best of your abilities under pressure. Excellent place to start a career, definitely teaches you valuable time management and performance skills that will help you at other jobs. great vacation policy

Consas with lots of the big agencies, in the lower tier positions pay is low and promotions are few and far between. raises are small if you see one, and it's easy to get lost in the crowd

The venerable brand is strong, if lumbering.

Project Management Director (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

    ProsSmart, nice people
    Lots of capabilities
    Strong culture
    Lots of resources and facilities

    ConsA plodding behemoth
Generally a few years behind the curve, especially in digital
The organizational winners tend to have some higher level patron looking out for them
Account group is all over the map -- some folks are strong and good, others are shockingly incapable of completing the must simple of daily tasks
Much of the work is riding on inertia, not quality

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop places for your employees to act entrepreneurially and them let them...

A great place to start your career.

Art Director (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsA great place to work on 360 ideas. A place to grow from a junior position. A lot of brands to work on.

ConsNo mentorship, no raises, no compensation for positive performance reviews, and conservative clients.

Advice to Senior Managementit promotes loyalty when you give your employees raises/bonuses at the end of the year. There is a high turn over rate for lower level creatives because of this issue.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
