I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

Co-workers make it an amazing place to work

    Cons

I feel like sometime there is no direction, and we are always recreating the wheel when developing a new process. We don't try to fix the current process.

    All about politics and "CYA"

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

Not a difficult job and generally not too demanding.

    Cons

Management is solely concerned with how they appear to their next level of management. You are 100% on your own, and if something blows up they are pros at knowing exactly how to deflect while throwing you in the fire. If this means stretching truths and even lying, then that's what they will do.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

As an employee here, you're exposed to both the good and bad side of retail: the customers themselves. You'll learn how to deal with an unruly client as well and be able to win them over, if you can. Like all other retail jobs, there are bad days, but this shouldn't discourage you from being able to use this job as a stepping stone. In my view, there are moments in which I don't see much room for improvement.

    Cons

As I stated before, it is mostly unruly clients who will hamper your experience at this job here, at least in the area in which I work, where there's moments in which the scales will tip over more towards solving a clients immediate need (solving their 500-copy issue while you have one working printer and an area full of people)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be flexible in your thinking, and never stop communicating with one another, as well as the rest of the employees. And always be the first ones to take training in all areas of the store.

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

The culture is "customer first" and the reputation of the company seems to be very positive in terms of service outside of the company. Vacation is above average (2 weeks to start, up to 4 after 5 years) and days off aren't usually hard to come by. Details (and closures) from big merger with OfficeDepot in 2013 are still being worked out.

    Cons

The pay isn't the greatest and raises are somewhat measly. Also, the career paths are minimal. Ordering system needs to be seriously revamped (not upgraded, just re released so that it makes sense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put some snax in the breakroom. Upgrade ancient register systems. If you add something new, TAKE AWAY the old system or device.
