I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

Co-workers make it an amazing place to work

    Cons

I feel like sometime there is no direction, and we are always recreating the wheel when developing a new process. We don't try to fix the current process.

    All about politics and "CYA"

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

Not a difficult job and generally not too demanding.

    Cons

Management is solely concerned with how they appear to their next level of management. You are 100% on your own, and if something blows up they are pros at knowing exactly how to deflect while throwing you in the fire. If this means stretching truths and even lying, then that's what they will do.

I worked at OfficeMax full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Upward mobility and convenient schedules

    Cons

Company micro-manages everything. Numbers are extremely important. Good work is quickly forgotten. Constantly changing the store around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to be good at everything, rather than great at one thing. You will be asked to wear many hats.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy tasks. Store management was not overly strict but made sure what got everything done

    Cons

I hate the low pay which is why is said good for High School or College Student because it is very hard to make a living off the pay. I started off at minimum wage and in the span of 3 years have only been raised 60 cents...... Also I think district manager and other upper level management expect to much. I one time we had to ask customers 5 questions at the register. That's too much for us to remember and the customers don't want to go through all of that when they are checking out......

I have been working at OfficeMax full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I made a lot of great contacts and the experience that I gained from retail and print was amazing! They also paid well.

    Cons

Horrible HR depatment that absolutely never followed up on communication and cost them so any talented people that made the business profitable. It was their demise!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Between the current CEO and HR you should replace e them all and rebuild your business. If you don't have the right people at the top the business is doomed for failure!

    Pros

Flexible working schedule, get to work the floor as a sales associate. Good part time job hours. Great store manager that actually cares.

    Cons

Management can at times lack in training/oversight of new employees. Not much long-term growth opportunities working at the stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train new employees in every job area thoroughly. Offer more pay raises as incentives.

    I worked at OfficeMax part-time

    Pros

You work with people who are generally smart, artistic, and creative.
There are a lot of things to learn about technology, different supplies, and business.

    Cons

There is little opportunity to advance in the company. I earned three degrees while at OM and I was never considered for management because I was part time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There isn't much to say because OfficeMax has been absorbed into the Office Depot brand.

Work life balance and comp was fair, before the merger occurred. Everything has changed since the merger, for the worst.
