I have been working at Novartis full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good training. Stable products at the time.

    Cons

To many cliff patents. Portfolio has now suffered and current produce are me-to products. Lost it's punch. Pipeline is slim despite what you read.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I go beyond management. Advise to leadership-CEO get on the same page as he reps. Understand the industry and you will find your answers for field reps.

I worked at Novartis as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

All the organization processes are well defined, great benefits (Even if you are a contractor). Nice people in general. As a contractor you had lunch, and even breakfast almost for free, coffe free. Inside the company you also get gym, bonus, massages, kindergarden for your children and others

    Cons

From what I heard (I was a contractor) the wage was a little below average. Burocracy can make you irritated at sometimes. Complex organization chart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase wages maybe

I worked at Novartis full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to make your own business discissions. You own your own sales number when you are the only rep in the territory.

    Cons

Not a stable career path. Yearly downsizing can be expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't sell to the reps customers as this at times hurts the rep and closes doors once the manager leaves.

I worked at Novartis as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Did not see any pro's

    Cons

Company morale was simply destroyed, decent leadership was just not present, new managers seem inept, the whole approach was one of cost cutting above all. Talent, seniority, respect on any level was tossed out the window. Layoffs and worker approach was cost based only, your skill or value was ignored, this company has zero respect for engineering or technical anything, makes sense why big pharma is hurting. I would avoid this nameplate totally, they are in the process of destroying Alcon in Irvine, pre-Novartis, that company was a great place to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire yourselves and get out of the surgical world, sell out and take your cash, you don't belong.

I have been working at Novartis part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good conpensation and internal training.
Mainly internal trainings and no/rare opportunity to choose external trainings because of costs reduction which is always on the agenda.
Too many changes and SOPs do not follow the changes, so not updated when needed.

    Cons

No team spirit and no career development

I have been working at Novartis full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Compensation is reasonable and benefits are good. Novartis is a company with global reach with resources for global projects.

    Cons

There are many layers of redundant people and many without a lot to do. It can be difficult to move projects forward because of the bureaucracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Much of middle level management hardly works. Consider reducing the use of HR in talent planning. Focus on the productivity of staff. The company is paying for a lot of corporate deadwood in East Hanover.

    Pros

Great place to work and learn as a professional. Lot of opportunities offered in a wide international environment. Good values and mission. Very competitive salaries are offered.

    Cons

It is becoming a "business first" company. Bureaucracy and never-ending proceses. Very political environment. Hard to progress in the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce bureaucracy and empower the associates. Establish more clear career paths

I have been working at Novartis full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Personnel is genuinely valued. Work/life balance is truly brought to life. People development is extremely valued here. Culture is highly collaborative. Compensation is competitive. Benefits are first class. If your in the right department and on the right team, the term "Team Work" finds its meaning.

    Cons

If you're not in the right department or on the wrong team, the environment can be extremely competitive and passive aggressive. Interdepartmental tasks can feel segmented. Opportunities can be limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure challenges and growth in responsibilities go hand in hand with compensation if there is no position to 'grow into' after a few years.
