I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

First and second lines of management are fair and committed. R&D efforts are outstanding. Benefits are generous.

    Cons

Bureaucratic decision-making slows decision-making. Company is too conservative to maximize the opportunities derived from R&D. Despite stated commitments to valuing employees, actions don't back up words.

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

There are some really motivated and inspiring people working here who really do want to do a good job and are prepared to work hard.

    Cons

Some of the systems and processes could do with revision - they get in the way of being able to work as effectively as you might like to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on getting a better work life balance for people.

    Pros

If you are a new member of healthcare industry, You can learn how to be a successful sales specialist in Novartis. The system of the company works like a machine.

    Cons

There are limited internal career options especially for marketing positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The distance between field workers and executive managers in an obstacle. The managers should be more close to other workers. Emphaty is the key point.

I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

The compensation at Novartis is "market level", but merit increases (raises) are tiny. Occasional work from home is a common perk for those whose jobs allow it, which is a real plus.

    Cons

Novartis no longer uses the term "work-life balance". Instead they prefer "work-life integration". That simply means you are expected to be available and actively working 24 hours a day. Emails from employees at 11pm are not uncommon.

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Highly motivated, smart middle management and individual contributors.
Great benefits, fair and balanced internal employee review system

    Cons

    Dysfunctional IT leadership.
Severely overburdened processes make mountains out of molehills. People in charge of Quality and Compliance have little to no technical acuity, which results in weeks or months of arguing over wholly unnecessary levels of documentation and qualification that provide no additional FDA or business value.
Quality and Compliance team runs completely unchecked. Nothing gets done without their approval, which completely cripples innovation.
