I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits
10% pre-tax company contribution to RRSP

    Cons

    Dysfunctional management
    Office morale is very low
Very low (if any) raises and bonuses
Company continues to move work to India, cutting jobs elsewhere and dumping more work on remaining employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiding in your offices and actually ask your employees what is good/bad, how to improve things, etc.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great overall benefits - 10% company contribution to the RRSP with no employee contribution required

    Cons

Small office so very little chance for career advancement
Raises and bonuses are pathetic (2013 there is no raise at all)
    Management communication is non existent
    Losing more clients than gaining
    Office morale is horrible

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees a raise to at least match the cost of living increase.
Bonuses are a joke - Make it worthwhile to show that employees are valued
Communicate openly with the office on what is going on with the business

    Pros

Great place to work & great work life balance; especially during the tax season

    Cons

    Too stingy about promotions.
In order to be promoted you have to leave to another department, or leave the bank and come back to a higher role

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote people so you can retain talents

    Pros

Great people, well respected in industry, nice to have on resume. Allows for a work life balance and is relatively employee friendly.

    Cons

I was in the investment management side and we completely lacked an identity. Compensation is somewhat low relative to the industry and this has hurt. Company is not sure what they want to be - indexer, active, manager of manger.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very good work/life balance; you get bank holidays off as well as very generous time off/sick days/personal days/work from home opportunities.Well known company that opens up opportunities with a lot of other firms within the financial services industry.

    Cons

Can get very boring with the monotonous work; You do the same things week in and week out. Depending on where you are, there is no real on-boarding training sessions... you get dropped in and are expected to know what you're doing.
