    Good benefits
10% pre-tax company contribution to RRSP

    Cons

    Dysfunctional management
    Office morale is very low
Very low (if any) raises and bonuses
Company continues to move work to India, cutting jobs elsewhere and dumping more work on remaining employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiding in your offices and actually ask your employees what is good/bad, how to improve things, etc.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Toronto, ON

    Pros

Great overall benefits - 10% company contribution to the RRSP with no employee contribution required

    Cons

Small office so very little chance for career advancement
Raises and bonuses are pathetic (2013 there is no raise at all)
    Management communication is non existent
    Losing more clients than gaining
    Office morale is horrible

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees a raise to at least match the cost of living increase.
Bonuses are a joke - Make it worthwhile to show that employees are valued
Communicate openly with the office on what is going on with the business

    Doesn't Recommend

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Many departments (but not all) have good work-life balance, and give the employees leeway to work from home and use their available time as they wish.

    Cons

There are a lot of people who leave Northern Trust so they can return to Northern Trust. This is because Northern Trust will pay more for an external candidate than for someone within the system.

Former Employee - Client Reporting Analyst in London, England (UK)

    Pros

Workinf hours 9-5, so good work life balance. The atmosphere there is great. No micromanagement at all. You feel good there after working in super big corporations

    Cons

Northern trust didnt cut work force when the crisis hit so they are doing that now. Lots of work is transferred to India of Ireland so there was no work for me any more, I totally understand their decision to do this. its so much cheaper to hire people in India.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dont transfer all the position to Ireland and India.. Leave something here to London also.

    Pros

Small office with nice people who take time to explain things

    Cons

Compensation package not competitive, promotion with little or no salary increase, very long to recruit which often put people in place under pressure, little recognition of work done, no career opportunities for insiders but a lot for outsiders.

Current Employee - Vice President  in  Chicago, IL (US)
Current Employee - Vice President in Chicago, IL (US)

    Pros

Work-life balance, not very demanding, ancient computer systems are finally starting to be addressed, good reputation even though it's based on staying out of trouble which is easy to do if you don't do much

    Cons

Terrible management - just had another round of musical chairs guaranteeing that they don't know how to do their jobs, coasting on past, extremely political, expect to grow sales while cutting staff, no opportunity for advancement, low comp relative to the market and getting worse

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thin out the incredibly top-heavy layers of management that have no accountability and do not add to the bottom line

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
