Current Employee – been working at Northern Trust full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Great overall benefits - 10% company contribution to the RRSP with no employee contribution required
Cons – Small office so very little chance for career advancement
Raises and bonuses are pathetic (2013 there is no raise at all)
Management communication is non existent
Losing more clients than gaining
Office morale is horrible
Advice to Senior Management – Give employees a raise to at least match the cost of living increase.
Bonuses are a joke - Make it worthwhile to show that employees are valued
Communicate openly with the office on what is going on with the business
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Northern Trust full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – This is a really nice place to work. Especially if you are in the HR department. The learning capability is unlimited
Cons – Working with some individuals in upper management on a daily basis who will turn and walk the other to avoid a simple "hello".
Advice to Senior Management – We are all professionals in our area. Join us. Be professional and courteous to your coworkers. Always remember, you can catch more bee's with honey...

Former Employee – worked at Northern Trust as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – IT workers are compensated well, in line with large financial organizations. Promotions are awarded based on merit more often than politics. Downtown "Chicago loop" locations are convenient for commuters.
Cons – Like many financial organizations, they continue to dwell in the past, using 1980's era waterfall processes rather than modern Agile methods. Application Development Managers are sometimes non-technical, and development teams lack leadership.
Advice to Senior Management – Get over the "promote from within" limitation and open manager spots to allow employees to compete with outside workers. Perform a corporate-wide Agile conversion ASAP, it is the current industry best practice, and performs much better than waterfall in highly regulated industries like banking and trading. Be sure to bring in experienced Agile contractors and permanent workers, Agile requires experience.

Pros – Amazing work
Good facility
No work pressure ( depends on the kinda team )
Higher management is very supportive
Cons – Timings ( work in Central US )
People employed
Communication with the management
Pay is too less compared to the market standards
Advice to Senior Management – Please, please, please..... Employe sensible people from good institutions.
Not many students are aware of the company
Also review the pay package what other companies offer and try to match accordingly

Current Employee – been working at Northern Trust full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Good pay for fresher in the market
Cons – Pathetic as you grow up in the organization when compared to market.
Salary changes department to department which is not fair
Profits of the organization generally goes down in 4th quarter and the same reason is put across for less bonus
Bonus has always decreased year on year and something has to be looked into by the Management
HR Still advices that the pay from the company is the best, in reality when we have other competitors who pay still high
Advice to Senior Management – Please Please please revisit the compensation pack...
Also try to retain experienced knowledge, than losing them because of pay.
I feel Management has to take a better step to curb on attrition by providing better pay for higher roles as well
