I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of really smart people in the company, and you can very much take control of your own career development. Learning and training opportunities are nearly unlimited. Pay is competitive and the requirements for promotion are clearly outlined and very transparent.

    Cons

As with any consulting job, at time it can be difficult to maintain a good work/life balance. Experienced hires may occasionally feel they're being talked down to or do not have the trust of management to do your job. There are a lot of rude, entitled people that work for the company, and the culture can be a bit grating at times.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The salary was great, they basically overpay people to do menial tasks and use their compensation as the only way to keep them in a miserable existence.

    Cons

Honestly this is the worst place I have ever worked, or heard of anyone else working. It all depends on your practice area, but the entire financial branch and all practices within it are an absolute nightmare.

Senior management cares only about client satisfaction and have dismal retention rates, people are ALWAYS quitting. In order to succeed be aware that you will be playing the political game to your very last breath, those that are promoted quickly are willing to trod on others to make their way. In terms of culture, there is none. You will be screamed at, abused, called names, asked to work 80+ hours, to cancel vacations to work, work every weekend, and nobody will care when your health fails because of it. They utilize a TON of contractors and the projects are meaningless and do not change.

It isn't a consulting firm, you will gain no real skills, it's a temp agency. The work is mind numbing and you have to be in with one or two of the "right" people to get any responsibility. Don't waste your time with a full time position here, at least the contractors make overtime. Every single project is a constant fire drill, and don't expect training or professional development as there is "no time" for such things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try listening to your employees and giving at least 10-20% of your effort to employee satisfaction. Yes, clients are important in consulting, but at the end of the day you need people to do the work.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've worked at five companies throughout my career and this is hands down the worst of them.

    Cons

    False promises from management
Did not deliver on anything promised when joining
    Terrible management with no mentorship
    Work was incredibly uninteresting
    Bonuses were a joke

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't flat out lie to people about what they will be doing and don't tell people the bonus percentages are targeted at 20%, then tell someone they are in top 3 people at their position and give them a 5% bonus, it's insulting.

    Pros

Nice people with flexible schedules. If you need to take a day off its not too difficult. Lots of free food to be found.

    Cons

Not alot of opportunities for administration to advancement. Pays alot less than industry standard. You can find yourself doing work above your paygrade and being taken advantage of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More opportunities for administrative staff.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You get a lot of responsibility early on and have the chance to interface directly with clients. The projects can be used as a resume builder.

    Cons

The culture is not great. Internal politics are difficult to manage through. Work is not intellectually stimulating or challenging. Your success may be tied to who your arbitrarily assigned mentor is and the director that you most frequently work with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More group inclusion. Improve office and group culture. Better projects. Manage staffing better.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work flexibility. You may be able to work as a remote employee.
    Decent compensation

    Cons

Navigant is not the typical consulting firm. I would not recommend it to junior/ mid-management consultants with no sales responsibility. Navigant doesn't have a good development program/ path for its consultants. It is very difficult to ascend through the ranks. Most of its senior employees come from other companies. Navigant has a bunch of experienced consultants close to retirement and as such are only interested to sell a couple of projects that would keep them busy and billable. The work doesn't flow to the junior consultants. What worsens the situation is that everybody is responsible for its own utilization and to provide yourself your projects. Consultants are not part of big pools where you can be called upon to work in diverse projects based on your skills.
It works more like little groups within a practice. You get to work most of the time with the manager who hired you. If that manager resigns to Navigant you better follow him because your career is over. It would be very difficult to get projects and the situation is worsened since you have to look around and knock lots of doors only to realize that those sub-groups will not let you in.

Bottom line if you are an expert close to retirement, Navigant is the place to be.

    Cons

Compensation is not great, leadership organization is constantly changing, emphasis on utilization
