    I worked at Meditech

    Pros

Free soda, cheap (and good) food, outside of Boston (cheaper cost of living, but still high), good health benefits

    Cons

Low salary, obsolete programing language, unsympathetic management. You get the feeling of being in a dead end; the company doesn't give you enough experience to branch out (especially since you're programming in a language that NO ONE else uses), so you have to move up inside the company to improve your life. But... why would you want to? A 5k better salary STILL sucks!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work it into your budget to pay your employees better. Employees with families stick around for the long haul, but how to you expect someone to raise a family near Boston for 40k a year?

I worked at Meditech full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Cares about employees. Great benefits. Majority of staff very friendly and willing to help other staff members. Reduced cost for food. Family oriented Very stable and reliable product with very large and loyal user base. Company very stable. Upper management very approachable and caring attitude.

    Cons

Management positions filled only from inside promotions with minimal outside influence. Some managers very difficult to work under, not open to new ideas, and do not know how to manage.. No privacy at workstations. No HR department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to hire some outside professionals into management positions. Create HR department so employees have somewhere to go for help.

    Pros

    Okay pay & benefits
Traveling between buildings do break up your day a bit.

    Cons

Depending on which Applications you're in, your individual workload can be that of 3-4 persons; and you have no say in whether or not you're the unlucky one.
Over-worked, over-stressed and 'gossip' like you've never experienced before is the order of the day here.
Vacations and not true vacations because not only do you have to find people to cover all your sites while on vacation, but you also have know that during vacation your work is being stored up until you get back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use commonsense in your organization and re-organizations.

    Pros

Rock solid company that provides for a long term career. Provides value and stability to its customers in an uncertain marketplace.

    Cons

Perceived as less "open" than other vendors. Better suited for someone that is comfortable doing things the Meditech way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up and keep opening up to new technologies.

    Pros

    The health insurance is good

    Cons

The company uses it own programming language which renders you immediately useless in the job market. the pay is so low that even if you do make it to an interview they will not take you seriously. The people that remain here do so because they are able to skate by and get promoted, there is very little as far as experienced talent goes here and those that are talented get overworked and become disgruntled because it is not appreciated. Looking into the market for similar jobs in the same cities that the buildings are located in it becomes blatantly obvious how low the pay is. As a programmer you will start off around $20,000 less than the lowest paid 10% with the same or similar jobs in the same area. This place is not worth what they try to tell you when you start. Meditech used to be able to say that they offer great benefits that other companies do not, that is not true anymore. Most tech companies offer comparable benefit which renders their claim moot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

bump up the salaries of you skilled labor you are no where close to market value, this will help you retain the good workers that you are greatly undervaluing. And clean out the people who are just collecting a paycheck and treating work and meetings like a social club.

    Pros

If you've been with the company for over three years, the benefits start to add up. Most groups allow you to telecommute one or maybe even two days a week at that point. You receive three weeks vacation and you are no longer negligibly vested in the company's retirement plan. If you're at a point in your life where you want to stick out a job for the long haul - this company may be a good fit for you.

    Cons

If you're there for under three years... the pay is poor, there is little flexibility and vacation time is limited. The bulk of employees start out as Applications Specialists. This is fine, if you're able to conduct customer service. Some consider the position to be high stress, many of the customers aren't particularly polite. Many of those who don't leave in the first few years transfer out of this role and either into development, marketing or if lucky, are promoted to analysts; a position with less customer interaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please find a way to compensate the little guy more. Word is company turnover is lower than the industry standard but that appears to be a low bar. Many folks start here right out of college and last a couple years and take off. If starting pay were a little higher, folk may be more motivated to stay until the benefits kick in.

    Pros

The people here are fantastic. Great communication with managers, co-workers, supervisors, etc. If I ever have a problem I don't have to feel "scared" to talk to someone. Always someone to help you out.
Relaxed culture. Great support for everyone.
    Benefits health package is great
All holidays off- PTO and Sick time as well

    Cons

The pay is horrendous. As someone who lives right outside the city and has loans to pay back, I can barely get buy without two other jobs. Didn't compensate for any of my previous experiences.
Training takes FOR-EV-ER. Was told one thing when I was hired and STILL waiting for it. Not anyone's fault, but really frustrating.
High turnover because of the low low low salary. Competitive companies offering $20G more? Yup, they're out.
Updates to the software are slow to come out and take forever.
Takes years to even be considered for a promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider starting higher for those who have a few years under their belt coming into the company. Allow for the salary to be negotiable.
Bring in fresh faces in upper management to get out of the old-fashioned mindset.
