Current Employee – been working at MassMutual full-time

ProsGenuinely involved management, very concerned about your success as an Advisor and always doing things for the greater good of the client, no matter what.
Supportive staff and invested in making you a great advisor -- a career, not a job.
Much better working environment than anything else in town.

ConsThis is hard work! They said so during the interview and they meant it.
You will quickly need to get over your fear of public speaking. You will constantly be attending business groups and introducing yourself in person, by email, by phone, and by postcards. Get over it or get out!

Current Employee – been working at MassMutual full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe training program here was great. They taught me not only all the technical training, but how to build an overall plan. My coworkers here were very friendly and helpful. It's really good to be in a place where people hang out with each other and like to help each other out. I feel like it is a great support structure.

ConsHardest part about this job is to prospect for clients. I've got a lot better with the training they have here so there is a learning curve to become really good at what you do. It feels good when you get it.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'd like to see management share this training with more people so that there's more brand awareness.

ProsExtremely flexible time. Choose your own market and client. No earning cap.

ConsNo base pay. Monthly $140 fee to be a full-time agent. Lots of calling required to survive. Friends and familes become your business.

ProsA great corporate culture. My coworkers and manager are bright, kind and work hard for their customers. We share our experiences, and build on our reosurces to have fun, work hard and get the job done right. The company is on the right track, both in IT and in Finance and the Finanacial advisors are really on the ball.

ConsNone I can honestly think of

ProsGreat Benefits along with exam reimbursements if you are in the Actuarial Student Program.

ConsThey could do better with the exam reimbursements for the actuarial program because they only reimburse One try. After that, you only get reimbursed if you pass the exam

Advice to Senior ManagementAll in all, you guys are doing a good job!

Former Employee – worked at MassMutual full-time for more than 7 years

ProsGreat upside compensation potential for as long as you can stay out of the cross hairs....

Consculture of managing by fear. The average tenure of a MassMutual GA is only about 6 years. Roughly 10% of their GA's are terminated each year and once a GA leaves MassMutual, they do all they can to "blacklist" and keep the GA's from moving to competitors.

There is also an unethical culture in the compliance and legal areas of the company. company has a long history of circling the wagons whenever they make a mistake and look for someone to "throw under the bus" Putting agents and GA's in financial ruin.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire most of your legal and compliance team and try admitting when the company makes mistakes instead of looking for someone to throw under the bus.....
