Young Company, Boring Work

Functional Consultant Intern (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA (US)

I worked at Manhattan Associates as an intern for more than a year

ProsThe company culture is great. Practically everyone is young (<28) and very active. Work place is always bustling and there are always things to do with other people from the company. Very reputable company that opens doors at many other companies.

ConsThis is not what I imagined consulting to be. The "Functional Consultant" job is essentially a glorified trouble shooter. Every project seemed to be like the last.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great consultants, so-so managers.

Consultant (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA (US)

I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt's a great place to start your career and you will work with teams of smart and motivated people. If you take advantage of every opportunity to build your network, in a few years you can be well connected inside the supply chain community and with client companies. You will get a lot of responsibility very quickly and will have freedom to do the job your way as long as your results are good.

ConsThe current CEO, Eddie Capel, is frustrating a lot of long-time employees. Your experience will largely be shaped by who you work under and it can vary greatly. Your ability to move up will in large part be dictated by your ability to have upper level managers and directors advocate for you, simply doing your job well is not enough. At times, the sales team will give new clients totally unrealistic expectations of the product and then the implementation team [consultants] have to come in and be the bad guys, make the clients angry by telling them the truth about what the product can do, and work themselves to death to try to make the client happy.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of Eddie.
Stop overselling to get more clients, you are hanging the consultants out to dry.
