I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Feel like I'm making a difference. Good pay for social services field. Good benefits. Great relationships are built. There is a good value system and the St. Louis office makes a point of giving back. Good succession planning program. Flexible regarding needing to take time off.

    Cons

No opportunity for growth unless you are part of the "in" crowd. Promotion is based more on personal preference rather than ability to lead. Thus, some of the middle management lacks good management skills and sometimes good work ethic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotion should be more objective and less subjective. Based on ability to lead, quality of work and experience.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Associates were great to work with.
Medical benefits we good, but dental was horrible
Very flexible with respect to telecommuting
A handful of new executives are trying to refresh the organization

    Cons

Horrible culture - executive team fosters an environment of distrust. Constant fighting / backstabbing amongst leaders (EVP and SVP level) which is very evident to lower level management.
    Product offering is not competitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to shed your executive team of those from years past - they are roadblocks and promote the poor culture of the company.

I have been working at Magellan Health

    Pros

Rewarding work with all branches of the military- includes positions with schools, bases, worldwide.

    Cons

For our sector the total paid time off is only 7 days a YEAR total! Includes total time to be used for Holidays, Vacation and sick leave. We have 7 only to use for all three area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please evaluate the strain of the actual work and think of these employees only being allowed 7 days per calendar year to use for any vacation, illness, or holiday. This feels peculiar- like the dark ages. The work is very taxing and these employees absolutely need time to regenerate.

    Pros

The Military people are great on the bases.

    Cons

PTO system gives you 6-10 days. You are not paid for holiday or base family days which add up to 12. Anyway you look at it you are going to not get paid for days or weeks if you take off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change PTO system. Cost of living raises and bonuses

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good company. they try to modernize the company. active in the Market

    Cons

Poor treatment of MFLCs. Poor Compensation Package . discriminatory practices against MFLCS. MFLCS are not offered same benefits as the rest of the company employees. Forced into full time , cut salary and offered benefits that does not benefit the employee rather than the company. No sick leave not poor paid time off based on hours worked due to the nature of out business rotational we end up with at least one month unpaid leave every 6 months. they only offer 6 days a year of vacation time which you never get because you use for the unpaid holidays you forced to take since you can not work and you are stuck oversees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

equate t all employee working for Magellan and offer the same benefits to all full time employees. stop discrimination against MFLCS in Benefits and Pay.
