    Pros

Great culture, fantastic brilliant people to work with. Always look forward to going in to work everyday. No micromanagement, and competitive salary.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth, small company competing in a gigantic market with billion dollar companies. Steep learning curve to get into the industry.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    You can quit at anytime.

    Cons

    Slave factory
    No raises
Consistently asked to work over time
Only people who work overtime are promoted
    Lots of favoritism
Most managers are not technical but insist in making technical decisions
Cheap, cheap, cheap. Won't even buy you a pencil.
    Archaic development practices
    Bullying tactics used by managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Educate yourself on modern software development and stop bullying your employees. Reward those to do the real work rather than those to talk the talk.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people, managers are approachable and friendly. Good benefits, good pension.

    Cons

Once you are on an off-site program you do not hear anything about other opportunities on other programs. You get isolated and program managers do not want to lose you so you are not told about other programs. As well since you are not in a main location managers from outside your program have no clue who you are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate program opportunities to all employees. You never know what skills are out there and who might be an awesome fit if you don't ask. To many managers just slot in people they know into new projects without finding out what is out there.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Excellent management at all levels. The company really lives out its beliefs: Do What's Right, Respect Others, Perform with Excellence. There are many career paths to take within Lockheed and no one is limited to a single path. Management will work with employees to shape and guide careers. The company supports employees and allows flexible work schedules. CEO Marilyn Hewson is an outstanding communicator, and keeps in touch with the worker-bees. Overall, an excellent place to work.

    Cons

In big companies a lot of emphasis is put on winning bids, and high-fives are given to teams that win. However, a lot good work is also done on a losing effort. Professionals work really hard even when they lose, and their effort should be recognized and high-fives passed around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue the open communications with employees about what's going on in this huge company....especially during downsizing. This really help when times get tough.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pay and benefits are very good, people are professional, intelligent, educated and try to do a great job. Ethics are important to the company and therefore, to the employees. Upward mobility is possible if you learn the Lockheed way, work hard, perform above expectations and work on high profile projects--where management pays attention.

    Cons

The company is so large that they need lots of policies and procedures and metrics to manage the place. Sometimes metrics are one-size fits all, even when the metrics don't apply to the work you're doing. It is a very large company and is difficult to get recognized if you're doing routine, mundane work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance between metrics and judgment when assessing the employee's performance is necessary. Metrics cannot account for all the work done by a buyer.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are several opportunities to change jobs frequently if this is what you enjoy. Contracts come and go which may be a CON for some. If you have been identified as a high-potential leader, adjacent opportunities will surface. Lockheed has a history of innovation and developing cutting edge technology; think: Mars Rover, F35, Cyber Security and many more. Probably some of the smartest people I know work at Lockheed.

LM is also the most ethical company I have ever worked for and while there may be examples otherwise will deliver what it commits to customers. I have seen them lose millions on contracts to meet deliveries where others may walk or deliver half-baked solutions.

    Cons

Lockheed is a typical fortune 50 business with a large bureaucratic system. Getting things done can be difficult although this has improved over the years as portions of the company have contracted due to smaller government budgets. Lockheed is very structured with a lot of individuals in support functions which could be seen as a PRO for some.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management success at Lockheed is determined by your ability to plan, execute and deliver. Technical staff are expected to innovate and protect contracts from failing by ensuring technical solutions are sound and scalable systems. Transparency is incredibly important as well as chain of command.
