Great Company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time

ProsGreat culture, fantastic brilliant people to work with. Always look forward to going in to work everyday. No micromanagement, and competitive salary.

ConsNot a lot of room for growth, small company competing in a gigantic market with billion dollar companies. Steep learning curve to get into the industry.

Terrible management, poor compensation, zero reward, slave factory.

Member Technical Staff (Former Employee)
Montreal, QC

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 3 years

ProsYou can quit at anytime.

ConsSlave factory
No raises
Consistently asked to work over time
Only people who work overtime are promoted
Lots of favoritism
Most managers are not technical but insist in making technical decisions
Cheap, cheap, cheap. Won't even buy you a pencil.
Archaic development practices
Bullying tactics used by managers

Advice to Senior ManagementEducate yourself on modern software development and stop bullying your employees. Reward those to do the real work rather than those to talk the talk.

Make sure you don't end up on an off-site program'

Associate Software Developer (Current Employee)
Halifax, NS

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat people, managers are approachable and friendly. Good benefits, good pension.

ConsOnce you are on an off-site program you do not hear anything about other opportunities on other programs. You get isolated and program managers do not want to lose you so you are not told about other programs. As well since you are not in a main location managers from outside your program have no clue who you are.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate program opportunities to all employees. You never know what skills are out there and who might be an awesome fit if you don't ask. To many managers just slot in people they know into new projects without finding out what is out there.

Good with just a few rough patches.

Systems Engineer, Senior Staff (Former Employee)
Denver, CO (US)

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

ProsReasonably well run company. Variety of work. Great colleagues. Interesting projects. Lots of training and educational support. Pay and benefits better than industry standards.

ConsStill kind of an old boy's network. Uneven advancement. Placement of employees exposed by project contractions is poor. Highly expert specialists are considered a burden to programs.

Great way to start my career - company really believes in its engineers and supports them.

Staff Systems Engineer (Former Employee)
Rockville, MD (US)

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 8 years

ProsTons of leadership training, ability to transfer within the company, solid and clear path to promotion, especially at junior levels. Met some great managers and engineers. Strongly motivate leaders to mentor others and it is a team atmosphere, not competitive within. Definitely recommend, especially to young career folks or those who like the structure and stability of a large company. Plus the stock has been killing it lately in the market.

ConsFederal budgets are declining and therefore LM budgets too - they have been tightening belt and doing layoffs. Not a fast pace of change. Depends on what work you do and what you're interested in, but I never really liked the whole "blowing stuff up" part of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementIS&GS policy on telecommuters paying for their own travel took this high-pot outside the company.
