    Pros

There was always a good family atmosphere and management was reasonable about the way they handled their employees. The company believes in donating time and money to good causes.

    Cons

Executive management does not utilize the most knowledgeable employees who have hands on experience in the field. This has led to poor decisions and less than stellar products and services. The layoffs that have occurred have really ruined trust in the company and management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come out with cutting edge products. Trust in your salespeople. Figure out how to instill confidence in employees while laying off their friends.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Non-management level employees work well and have a true team culture. People are very supportive of each other and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure goals are met.

    Cons

-Constant turnover in upper management of Web Ops department. Each new VP or Director comes in with "new" ideas that are really just the same ideas from two managers ago. Management all shocked when those "new" ideas fail. They were really just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.
-Constant threat of layoffs and outsourcing of jobs.
    -HR practically non-existent.
-Open floor plan makes it very difficult to conduct client calls since a) people around you are always on phone with their clients and b) people are always walking by and talking amongst themselves. These factors directly impact productivity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Choose a direction and stick with it. Give middle management the support they need, and revamp the company culture so employees feel like their contributions are valued.
-Position LN as the thought leader in legal marketing and own the strong reputation it has had for so many years. Then price accordingly. You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to make money when you stop undercharging.
-Stop giving HUGE salaries to CEOs and other execs who in reality contribute very little and who rarely have any experience in this industry.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits of the company are good, time-off is average for the company. Nice thing was summer hours where you could work more during the week and leave early on friday.

    Cons

Company didn't know what they were in terms of direction, they would tell the employees one thing and the next day it was something else. Management had no idea what most of the teams did, how long projects took, and no training was provided. Promotions were discussed, and promised to employees but were never issued.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time with your employees and understand what they do, so you can provide them with the training and equipment needed to perform above and beyond their duties.

    Pros

The benefits of working for an industry giant like LexisNexis include the ability to profit off of the interaction of multiple business elements to produce new and interesting products from individual groups.

    Cons

An overall focus from upper management on outsourcing key tasks overseas leads not only to job instability, but a certain sloppiness and inaccuracy of data as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on employee development and less so on outsourcing.

    Pros

Great benefits. Fantasic health insurance and entire package.

    Cons

The worst corporate culture I've ever experienced in more than 20 years work. Just awful. Cliques, mean people, bad managers, blamers. YIKES! Run fast, run far.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to basic marketing theories. Why did you release two distinctly different versions of the main research software at the same time? To completely confuse your clients? You did it. Great job. It caused huge layoffs due to your loss of clients and frustration among sales reps. Bloomberg--are you still interesed? I hear there's going to be a fire sale.
