people not treated fairly

Labourer (Current Employee)
Meldrum Bay, ON

I have been working at Lafarge North America part-time for more than 10 years

Prosgood benifits , lots of experiance on different heavy equipment, opertunity to try new things. chance to work with lots of different people.

Conssome employees are treated different then other employees. foremans would sooner put more work on employees then have to do there job by getting the employee who was asked to do the job to do it.

Advice to Senior Managementif you are in the position you are it is up to you to do your job to the best of your ability. if you are afraid of confrintation you should maybe think about a different career. do not lie to the employees about what is going on, just tell them the truth so that way there can be no rumours or false thinking by the employees. thanks in advance.

WE had a great team of workers at that time, but wasn't utilized to the best advantage

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Hamilton, ON

I worked at Lafarge North America

ProsThey do try to support best practices, a lot of surveys,at the same time a lot of red tape.

ConsThey seem to have not listened to the small customer and put to many eggs in the big customers basket. There is a place there for another small supplier to get started. You could charge more money for prompt service, it costs small companies a lot of money to pay 4 or 5 guys to wait around to get service.

Good company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I worked at Lafarge North America full-time for more than a year

ProsI found this a good company to work for as they emphasize work/life balance, their benefit structure is excellent and their salary structure is great. They are eager for their employees to learn, on and off the job and value the safety of it's employees companywide.

ConsThere are not many but the one that sticks out the most to me is that, in a lot of cases, their communication skills are not as good as it could be. One other thing is the way they handle the reduction in workforce/layoffs/terminating situations.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more open, accessible and like minded so that there is no confusion about what is being said or expected.

Encouraged and Appreciated

Executive Administrative Assistant (Former Employee)
Denver, CO (US)

I worked at Lafarge North America full-time for more than 8 years

ProsI was always encouraged and appreciated for my Executive Assistance work at Lafarge NA in the Aggregates Division. I was given opportunity to serve on committees outside my area, which assisted greatly in my growth as an Executive Assistant and also provided the variety to keep me excited about my work.

ConsThey (Lafarge NA) hung on to managers that were rude, demanding, and demeaning to other employees -- not necessarily his charges, either. Lafarge should have let him go. This cause low morale within all areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe aware of the affect negative management has on those serving him or her. Negativity has a definite impact on work production and morale.

Not very diverse

IT Analyst (Current Employee)
Southfield, MI (US)

I have been working at Lafarge North America as a contractor for more than a year

ProsGreat hours, break areas and lunchrooms always well stocked with coffee and other beverages free of charge

ConsMany departments weren't as diverse as far as age and race.

Advice to Senior ManagementExpand more opportunities to lower employees.....favoritism is very apparent.
