    Pros

The best part of working at KPMG are the people. Audit teams are composed of people in their early to mid 20's so you naturally become close. Benefits are great. Looks great to future employers.

    Cons

Long hours, I would regularly work until 11 at night and on weekends. Be prepared for a lot of company politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked for managers who had big egos and liked to work their teams around the clock. This unfortunately tainted my experience.

KPMG is a great company to start out your career

I have been working at KPMG US full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Since the company is large, there are many resources available. One plus is the large amount of paid time off days you receive. Moving within the company and transferring to other geographic locations is fairly easy.

    Cons

You are easily replaceable and management knows this. Long hours and lack of merit based bonuses. Salaries are below market and are not equal across the board for all employees at the same level. Employees do receive a good amount of vacation days, but it is very difficult to use these days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase salaries and bonus structures. Do not over-work your top performers. All top performers end up leaving the firm due to the lack of a work-life balance. Changeability is put on the staff and is an unnecessarily stressful metric. We should be doing good work and taking the time to do things right instead of worrying about our manager's budgets from low-bid projects.

I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Awesome training, great people and family like atmosphere. They also have a great list of clients and if you speak up you will get a chance to work on your desired clients. The pay is not bad for an entry level job and the brand speaks for itself in the accounting world. 5 Weeks PTO!

    Cons

Hours are pretty bad for 7-9 months out of the year but that depends on your schedule. Work gets pretty redundant and dry after a while. No opportunity for creativity. You are like a robot copying prior year workpapers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to work life balance. If you continue to get new clients, you should hire more people accordingly so that people aren't constantly overworked.

Former Employee - Senior Manager in Los Angeles, CA (US)
Former Employee - Senior Manager in Los Angeles, CA (US)

I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    1) Pace of learning.
    2) Clear career path and growth. "Up or out" may soudn like a bad thing until you work somehwere where that is not the case. At KPMG you get a little faith and benefit of the doubt when promotion time comes. Some places you have to be doing 100% of the job above yours before they even consider the promotion without the opportunity to learn to do it either.
    3) Work schedule flexibility outside of busy season. Take advantage of the vacation days and sabatical

    Cons

    1) Long hours, especially during busy season
    2) This is a client service industry position so it is very deadline driven and you are often the last piece of the puzzle and therefore left getting your work done with much less time available to do it than is ideal.
    3) Horrible 401K match and retirement benefits for non partners
