Great company. Amazing culture. Quickly rising to the top

Investment Banking Analyst (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I have been working at Jefferies & Company full-time for more than a year

ProsJunior level employees given lots of challenging and meaningful work. Great exit opportunities. Excellent opportunity to work with intelligent and driven people.

ConsLong hours as an analyst, but doable. Limited deal opportunities due to smaller balance sheet, but that is changing quickly fortunately.

I worked at Jefferies & Company as an intern for less than a year

Prossupportive and nice co-workers
the firm is growing and there might be future opportunities
culture is good, maybe better than bulge bracket

Consnot very structured in staffing
people are from different firms and still needs time to establish its own culture

Equity research - Glad I got out when I did

Equity Research Associate (Former Employee)
Boston, MA (US)

I worked at Jefferies & Company full-time for more than a year

Pros-Serves as a good "boot camp" for people new to sell side
-You will appreciate all future jobs much more
-You learn the "red flags" of a work environment
-Decent resume-builder

Cons-Unending hours, not great pay under senior level
-Absolutely no regard whatsoever for employees as human beings. Actually not exaggerating.
-Zero, and I mean zero, HR supervision. Picture 1960's.
-All the negatives of unvestment banking lifestyle but not the pay

Advice to Senior ManagementCare a little more about the people who are helping you make your money, even if it's just a "cost of doing business" like research. Or don't , but be honest about it.

IBD Summer Analyst

Summer Analyst (Former Employee)
Boston, MA (US)

I worked at Jefferies & Company as an intern for less than a year

ProsAwesome exposure, responsibility and visibility. Fantastic experience. Unparalleled live deal experience for a 10 week summer intern, was able to make a noticeable impact in the office and was recognized accordingly for my work.

ConsLike any IB job, no personal life, many 90+ hour weeks etc.

Outstanding company, great promise for the future

Investment Banking Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at Jefferies & Company full-time for more than a year

ProsJefferies' investment banking franchise is fast-growing and well-positioned for the future. If you want to make a career in investment banking, it's one of the best places to go.

ConsWork/life balance is nonexistent. If you want to be an investment banker, be prepared to regularly work 100+ hour weeks and not take vacations for a year at a time.

Advice to Senior ManagementRich Handler is a best-in-class CEO. Rich and Brian's leadership is inspirational.

Great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Jefferies & Company

ProsWorking here is more relaxed than the big institutuions - the hours are also less. The people here give a good environment to work in

ConsThe bonuses paid to back office staff last year were very poor. Although this may be industry wide with the current economical situation

Middle Management is a major gating factor to taking this company to the next level

Associate - Database Administration (Current Employee)

I have been working at Jefferies & Company

ProsExecutive management is top notch, too bad middle management does not follow suit

ConsThere are middle managers at this company who are dinosaurs that are NOT willing to grasp new technologies; as these technologies threaten their existance, i.e. sand box.
Dealt with some children type mentalities in the technology department, i.e. I was here first attitude and I will force you to reinvent the wheel and waste company resources, i.e. sand box
Union-like mentality, 'seniority' supersedes everything else, its not about your skill-set, its about how long you have been with the company.
Co-workers purposely hide information and provide erroneous information for political/personal gain
There are very few team players in technology, its a lone ranger mentality, I don't think many played sports.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of middle management and let zealous workers shine.
