Former Employee – worked at Janssen

ProsAccess to Johnson and Johnson products at very low cost; when company was doing well, better opportunities for advancement, recent cutbacks have kept people in limbo selling lots of products.

ConsManagement clearly has its favourites with a small group of people and unqualified MBAs moving from position to position without proving themselves along the way. Some good people in management, too, but overall lacking vision and knowing how to treat employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart listening to employees, compare yourself to other companies and their selling styles. It's time to get back to basics because things were running more smoothly 7 years ago.

Current Employee – been working at Janssen full-time for more than 10 years

ProsCollaborative environment
Great teams with talented individuals
Strength in marketing
Good formalized development programs

ConsSome senior leaders are focused on their own agenda and advancement and are not supportive of their teams
Depends on where you are in the organization -- slightly different cultures depending on location
Politics tend to contribute to advancement opportunities

Advice to Senior ManagementDespite initiatives in employee engagement, would be helpful for organization if senior management really embaced this.

Titusville, NJ (US)

Former Employee – worked at Janssen full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGiven significant responsibility in junior positions and freedom to succeed. Also, provided plenty of resources and additional training both at Janssen and J&J.

ConsIf you did not work your way up through sales you will need to work extra hard to understand the sales environment. Many brand managers and Sr. management started in pharma sales.

Raritan, NJ (US)

Current Employee – been working at Janssen as an intern for less than a year

ProsI think that the best thing about Johnson and Johnson let alone Janssen is that they treat all of their coops like they are in an actual entry level job. I work in Finance, and its been great to manage budgets, sit in on billion dollar reviews and feel part of this awesome company

ConsThe only thing I will say is that I was not from the state where I did a coop, and they did not offer me housing. That isnt to say that coop and intern housing is not available. It does get offered to some coops.
