I worked at J Sainsbury part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

this was a part time job while at college and university, they were very flexible when i went to university. I was originally at the leeds store in moortown but then went to university in manchester. they put me as a dual store colleague meaning i would work in leeds in holidays and work in the manchester store in term time. the pay was good

    Cons

the bonus wasn't great if you compare to other stores, I am only comparing as my sister worked for Waitrose and her bonus was nothing on mine, we sometimes didn't get a bonus. Working overtime you dont get an enhanced pay rate it is standard hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

working in a large store it is harder to get time off but i guess that is everywhere.

    Pros

friendly colleagues, get into a rhythm and it can be ok. Good opportunities for advancement if you commit and come across well.

    Cons

poor managers but this will depend on the store, the work is dull often but that is expected. Compensation is decent for the work but nothing outstanding.

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good work atmosphere especially with other students doing part time around. Nothing bothers me really.

    Cons

Nothing in particular although I would love to get a bit of time off. Also it could be very busy if not enough people are in their shifts.

Former Employee - Customer Service Assistant Convenience  in  Sheffield, England (UK)
Former Employee - Customer Service Assistant Convenience in Sheffield, England (UK)

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Convenience teams are very close and friendly. The workforce is fairly young, and opportunity to spend time outside of work such as 'work nights' are often. All colleagues and management were very friendly, from this I have developed many out of work friends. Yearly bonus is also available for all colleagues. Holiday allowance is also great. Flexibility to switch shifts, give away shifts or pick up overtime. Overall superb part-time student employment.

    Cons

Underpaid in comparison to competitors such as Tesco. No pay rises for working national holidays. Fairly little opportunity for upwards progression throughout the business, especially on a part-time contract.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
