I worked at J. Crew full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Clothing discount is generous, young and hip atmosphere,

    Cons

I completely believe that J.Crew is a great place to work in other places other than Ontario. But there are large pieces to the people puzzle missing, or darn-right wrong, when it comes to J.Crew Canada. They company itself has paid large sums of money: flights, training documents and hours of training to instill a "people first", "creative" and "inspirational" management within stores. But there is absolutely no one holding these managers accountable to ensuring that the training lives within the stores. Unless you're doing it for the money or the power, there is no incentive to stay in the company as a manager. You can learn things, but there is no development. And a company that doesn't know the difference between learning and development cannot be successful in building a successful international business within Canada.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your managerial turnover rates. I would suggest you create a safe forum and interview these candidates as to why they left and I'm sure you will find commonalities in their reasoning.
There is no reason why J.Crew in Ontario should be considered a laughing stock for their managerial staff. And truly, this is not a malicious attack on the company, but upper management needs to reconcile with what's going on in Toronto. Your future business depends on it.

    Pros

Great discount, fun store environment, management is flexible with your availability if you are in school/other job, fun co-workers.

    Cons

Management can be inconsistent with rules making things confusing, VERY little hours usually 4-12 hours if you are sales support/associate and have open availability. Depressing looking at all the nice stuff but being too poor to afford to from the little hours given, on call shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

hire less people to give more hours, be on the same page.

I have been working at J. Crew part-time

    Pros

    -Good discount
    -Good associates as coworkers
    -Nice clothes

    Cons

Management doesn't seem to staff the store properly and there are so little hours to be given and a large staff that needs hours. Mgmt also seems overly aggressive in trying to get their sales associates to make a high volume of sales (which if you don't make, your hours get slashed). The only people who get hours are management and stylists. Hours are far and few between despite having decent sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If there wasn't the added pressure of high sales goals in a low volume store, this would be an ideal workplace, however that isn't the case.

    Pros

Great, upbeat environment with friendly coworkers and managerial staff. Starting salary reflects on your previous experience. Also, I am just a big fan of the clothes - you get a generous discount.

    Cons

As I work in a fairly low volume store in a fairly quiet mall, I work about four measly hours a week. I would appreciate more, obviously.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Gimme more hours, guys.
