I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Work/Life Balance
Exceptionally brilliant people within Engineering, Project Management, Consulting and Marketing.
Tremendous resources to global knowledge and best practices.
    International assignments.
    Education and training.

    Cons

Good managers can make work fun, meaningful, and all those warm, fuzzy things. Good managers can make work feel like a home away from home. They can make your team feel like a family. Not within IBM.

Mid-Manager leadership in sales and some areas of marketing are segregated to relationships, personal goals and bias.

IBM Canada Management for example behave like school yard cliques. You're either in or you are out. Pedigree and social status also factor in on who receives coveted sales territories, and leadership positions. Diversity of people in prominent executive level positions in IBM Canada are near to non-existent.

Acquired companies such as Cognos have an internalized culture that at times does not embrace the spirit of IBM's values to develop and grow one's career from within. Career progression is select and bias.

Innovation is stagnant in some divisions.

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

Good talent management t process. Doing some cool things somewhere in the business.

    Cons

Total management disconnect from employees. Employees radically undervalued and inconsistently compensated. Sr. Management spends all their time managing UP that there's very little managing down.
New sr. Management is substituted all the time with no domain experience, yet make pronouncement a as though they are experts without seeking about actual experts.

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

Very good environment if you like a highly structured and process oriented environment.

    Cons

They are not the same company they were several years ago ... profit margins rule their work environment and they treat their employees and contractors very badly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees ... and spread the wealth.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Global company with interesting consulting opportunities when you can get yourself aligned to participate and are willing to travel. Very focused on client success. Strong project management acumen. Ability to work from home when appropriate. Lots of training is available - most online / webinar. Lots of internal tools to connect and leverage social technology solutions.

    Cons

At this time, multiple resource actions together with an aggressive change agenda has created a nervous culture... but I'm still optimistic.
