I have been working at Honda of America Mfg. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    The plant is in Ohio

    Cons

The Federal Trade Commission has found Honda guilty of not producing, and manufacturing parts in America. Therefore Honda cannot prove that its quality or work policies of Hiring, and personnel have any merit. 90% of Honda employees are not happy, even though they work at their job. Many people in Ohio have worked for centuries with more to talk about besides the happiest place to work. They don't regret their fuller, more meaningful lives either.

I don't know is there is any provable concept that Honda actually follows any guidelines with its business or employees, except for al the missed quality issues and destroyed lives. Honda points out that people that laugh, and are happy are just not good enough for their Hitler like discipline code. I am amazed at all the outburst of emotion at Honda, and Honda always pretends to do the right thing, but in its haste to be across the finish line of bliss and un finished work it misses some simple concepts that majorly has ruined its business with Ohioans.

    1) Honda doesn't treat its employees well, and it doesn't treat its customers well. When you work in warrantee, you hear of its endless amount of quality problems the general public doesn't her about. This plays major havac with Managers because they just wanted to be a manager and they ignored quality. I have done plenty of warrantee claims for new vehicles purchased from Honda and customers are increasingly seeing more issues with their vehicles. For some reason Honda acts separate from mainstream, and is not easy when confronted with anything trying to out run issues. I could name many quality issues that are completely a waste of time on here; Headliners falling out, Torque converters and transmissions falling out, airbags.

    2) Honda pretends as if it does a lot for the community. However Honda feels that it is separate and chosen from the community as well. This is impossible its footprint with domestic violence, drugs, and domestic related offenses is larger than they realize. Anybody that has experience and a education knows this. These problems have led to quality problems on the community which Honda isn't prepared to handle. Honda doesn't have the experience or experienced personnel to handle problems that they cant realize. Human Recourses is a skill that moves cattle through the Barn. Treating people with respect, Honda hasn't learned yet. They just bark and expect.

    3) Honda is mesmerized by and only hires young people. Most of which do not have the experience to understand their suppliers and the surrounding community. Its easy to understand that anybody under 40 does not have the experience needed to safely and accurately judge Hondas problems.

    4) Honda has no idea who its suppliers are and what roles they play, therefore cannot reduce recalls, understand ones work experience or properly fix quality issues quick enough.

    5) Honda is idea based logic, not experienced based logic. So they hire young kids that only leave fighting management and each other and have no idea about life.

    6) Honda portrays itself as professional behavior analyst. The truth is that Honda shows its quality, behavioral, and turnover to be a different story. Therefore its impossible for Honda to be educated and experienced in knowing the customer. Honda uses imagery to attract people, but in all it is slow compared to the disciplines of its own suppliers.

    7) It has taken Honda 30 years to follow simple rules in dealing with people, and there may be Honda cars on the road, but only a small percentage compared to GM or TOYOTA.

I worked at Honda of America Mfg. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For the area, you won't find any better compensation. It is a farming area and if anyone works for another factory, it is likely a Honda supplier. Great parking, olympic pool/fitness center with trainers and massage therapists. Very laid back and low expectations. You get a bonus once a month just for showing up to work everyday. Also profit sharing and stock options. No business attire needed for working ANYWHERE at Honda. The CEO wears the same shirt and pants as the man who puts the floor mats in. There is a plethora of inhouse training, from MS Office, to accounting classes and many thing that will heighten your business acumen. However, trying to get into an off-site training that will look good on your resume is difficult.

    Cons

Most of the facility is run by "good ole boys". The best education you can have is from the local high school. If you have a bachelors or a masters, your opinion will hardly matter and you will be there for the paycheck. Your manager will likely have a high school diploma, have no idea what a pivot table is, and be divorced because they will do anything management says. They stress family values, but that doesn't amount to quality time with family. Just means they will pay you. Most of the japanese who are there left their families in Tokyo and send their paychecks home. Also, you are stuck wherever you are. It is very hard to move to a different position and IMPOSSIBLE to move to another division.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow cross training to improve schedule flexibility and associate freedom. Reward employees with options for vacation or compensation.
