Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor for more than 3 years
Pros – The client are generally nice to deal with. The job is not difficult to do. My co-workers are great people to work with.
Cons – Internal politics makes work difficult to enjoy at times. Can be boring as the job tends to be repetitive. High call volume days can be stressful. Its a desk job so it can be hard to enjoy if you like being active. Lunch time is 30 minutes. The pay is below industry standards for this position.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Modern feeling company, progressive policies, lots of work
Cons – Employees can get "stuck" in same position, very hard to move and get promoted as managers want to "keep" you working for them, especially if teleworkers.
Advice to Senior Management – Introduce more rotations, employee movement, real pay for performance for hard workers so people don 't quit or get demotivated. Salaries don't make sense when people are doing the same job (or working more) for less pay as their peer just because they were hired earlier. More experienced people in HP should be better paid than new hires, as we get things done, fix problems and get the tough assignments.. New people come in and they don't live up to their role.

Former Employee – worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Great direct managers, flex office, company car, professional colleagues. They let you self manage, and take control of your own accounts....at least in my office.
Cons – Very intense layers of reporting, forecasting, weekly, monthly, quarterly, years sales territory planning, sometimes requiring presentations to upper management. Very administratively time consuming. Some staff perfected the art of managing these these in steadying actually seeing clients and winning business.
Advice to Senior Management – Give your sales staff the freedom to become superstars, or hang themselves. But judge them on their numbers, bottom line, not on who hands you the best reports.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – 1) Work From Home / Tele-worker privileges. If you can manage your time efficiently, being able to work at home allows for a large improvement in work-life balance. (and sleeping in)
2) Vacation Policy. I believe new hires start with 3 weeks and every 2 years of service gets an additional day. Carry over year to year is 5 days max.
3) Benefits. Although benefits were better a few years ago, having 9a large portion covered for dental, medical and other expenses is an added bonus.
Cons – 1) Lower than industry pay.
2) Depending on what team you are on, the environment can be a bit toxic at times. This is generally based around pay and reoccurring issues.
3) Opportunities. What once was a thriving industry has been severely hurt in the current economic situation. The jobs that were available several years ago are out sourced and it is difficult to find new positions internally.
Advice to Senior Management – Lower Level Employees could use more attention.

Former Employee – worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Team work, exposure to a variety of clients/industries
Cons – Sales makes promises that cannot be met by delivery teams without extreme effort. This contributes to lack of work-life balance. Good training available but no time to take it. Little sense of community since most teams are virtual and/or work from home.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
