    flexible work schedule, no one to watch over your shoulder, great company as a whole, training every year for refresher...lots of products to sell which can also be a com

    Cons

    As a rookie you get a scratch territory and it take a while to build your business. They do not pay for your phone, internet or any other expenses you incur as you try an build your business. Too many products to sell.

    Give the rookies actual accounts that will help them be successful...pay for phone and internet

    Pros

    Schein is the market leader and well-respected in the industry. Owns many categories and commands respect from the biggest players. Job prestige is high and culture is extremely traditional. Financially, the company is like a rock and consistently grows stock and market share from year to year. Many "lifers" who have been in the industry forever and love Schein.

    Cons

    A company run by accountants. Financials always look great, but profit squeezing is paramount and most departments are understaffed, positions are rarely backfilled, responsibilities/expectations are huge and they are miserly with raises. Salaries are barely competitive for mid-management positions and internal systems are outdated; budgets and tools to innovate (or even compete professionally) are next to nil. Upward mobility is limited; I did not personally witness many major title promotions from within--although plenty of people fulfilled their manager/subordinate's responsibilities for months or years after the manager/subordinate left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest more in your people. It's demoralizing to work for a market leader that leads by squeezing profit rather than incentivizing innovation.

    Pros

    Henry Schein has a great name in dentistry so as a sales rep you already have some credibility. With a big company comes lots of resources to help you be as successful as possible. Lots of freedom to run your territory and your schedule the way that you want. This freedom, however, isn't always great for everyone. Must be VERY self motivated. Very strong career development program at Henry Schein.

    Cons

    Big company comes with a lot of corporate initiatives and run around. The right hand doesn't seem to always know what the left hand is doing and as a sales rep you are stuck as the face to the problem.

    Pros

    Very stable company with great benefits and understanding of a good work/life balance.

    Cons

    Low pay for such a huge responsibility. Little room for growth. Management does not stay current with marketing trends and is hesitant to change. Growth in both pay and title only come with time and are not at all associated with quality or performance.

    This is a stock driven organization. You will never get the budget you need to continually produce the profit growth corporate is asking for. There is no strategic direction for the product sets (software).

    They do not fire anyone (this may look like a Pro, but just wait) you will always have a job if you continue to show up, breath, and complete you work at a menial level. The problem is strong performance isn't recognized or rewarded so strong performers leave. Low performers stay because not much is required and the job is stable.... the company slowly grows less competent as its best employees leave and its lower performers stay.

    Reward your employees according to their quality of work and according to their workload.

    Great place to work if you want a steady pay check to support your family. If you have ambition to move up in the company, it does not happen internally.

    I have had a very nice experience. All information I have received from management and co-workers has been positive and accurate. Everyone works together well at the location I'm part of.

    Cons

    I would like a full-time position. I do get offered some extra hours on weekends and to cover other shifts for vacations and time off.

    Salary was average and commute was good.

    Cons

    Nasty people. Watch your back. Management is insecure. Treats staff like dirt. No one knows how to cross-train. It's a shame as the company has a good reputation in name only.

    Your day will come when the company will get wind of what you are up to. What goes around comes around.
