Great training

Assistant Fresh Foods Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time for less than a year

ProsAmazing training programs compared to previous employers. Very number oriented so you learn alot about the business aspect of the business even only being an assistant, very organized, as much as retail can get anyways.

ConsThe store I am at is awful, you see other managers try so hard to do their best but can't get anything accomplished because of the moral of store and alot of no calls no shows due to poor hiring.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire better people!!

Strong company with good products.

Fresh Foods Manager (Current Employee)
Charleston, SC (US)

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time for less than a year

ProsCompany values good quality and safety, with lots of training for managers.

ConsCustomer service is a high priority, but labor hours are designed to squeeze so much productivity out of each associate, that almost no time is left for managing and customer service.

Okay so far

Customer Service Clerk (Current Employee)

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time for more than a year

ProsYou do get bonuses twice a year depending on how well the stores sales are. If management see some potential in you, they will recommend you for more opportunities in the store.

ConsComing from a competitor and having over 15 years experience, I thought that I would have gotten a better pay rate.

Eh, it's money...

Cashier (Current Employee)

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time

ProsVery flexible. If you move somewhere it's not that hard to transfer. The responsibilities aren't typically too daunting though they can be (see cons). They do pay you which is nice and most of the management does what it can.

ConsThe working hours are always inconsistent. I've lost EBT because of this. Corporate also likes to cut hours when the store can't afford it. Recently we've had a lot of very busy days and not enough people staffed to work them forcing us to get help from other departments. I've even had to stay a couple hours late (once I was there four hours after my shift was supposed to end). There have also been multiple occasions where I have not gotten a break or a lunch for whatever reason and a couple where I was asked to stay 30 minutes after my shift so they could count it as a lunch. Thirty minutes may not seem like much but I am a student with an internship and my time is stretched as it is.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhoever assigns the hours at corporate really needs to reassess how they go about doing it. It's never good to overstress your employees. Especially when you're only paying them minimum wage.

Not the best

Deli Clerk (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC (US)

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time for more than 3 years

ProsYou can basically get the job super easily, and write it as experience on your resume. Thats the best thing about HT. Only get this job if you can't find anything else and need the money.

ConsMost managers learn how to be managers at Jerks-R-Us, and its who you know and who you're friends with that will get you a raise. And if you're mean.

there is a remarkable degree of inconsistency from top to the lowest paid clerk

Fresh Foods Chef (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC (US)

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time for more than 5 years

Prosthe pay is decent for this region and most managers try to accomodate their employees needs.upper management is good at "company speak",but don't quite deliver on most topics.

Conspoor communication within the store management to their employees.based on the daily activity observed in several stores the company values don't translate well with any degree of positive consistency

Advice to Senior Managementstore and co- managers ARE NOT very good at recognizing just what is actually happening in various departments aside from just NUMBERS. TOO MUCH DISPARITY
