I worked at Harris Teeter full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked for Harris Teeter for 13 years and enjoyed the company structure. Harris Teeter company values are as black and white a company can have. The pay was real good and the benefits were also good.

    Cons

The praise is high for good work but so is punishment if you make a mistake. The most common language and joke used at Harris Teeter is a hero one day and a zero the next. Everyone makes a mistake and Harris Teeter should learn this comes with the Business. Harris Teeter has alot of hard working associates and management who run the bare bones of the business and upper management should recognize their associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The only zeros at this company is their own upper management who placed this company in so much debt they had no choice but to sell to Kroger. Shame on all of you. I hope Kroger cleans house.

I worked at Harris Teeter full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's easy to get promoted and get raises if you do what you're supposed to do and not mess around. Be reliable and don't argue with customers and you won't have any problems. You get bonus check which I loved.

    Cons

Pay isn't great but like I said, don't mess around and you can have opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop taking advantage of how hard your employees work. Pay needs to be better for people who deserve it.

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, not working overnight, co-workers are very easy to get along with, and regular customers are great, bonus checks twice a year

    Cons

Store management doesn't care about your concerns and treat you like you have no feelings. They don't ask you to go work for another store, they tell you. Many times the store manager has been outright disrespectful and acts like he is too good to speak to us lowly workers directly. Department managers are disorganized and a bunch of young kids no more experienced than myself. You can be yelled at if you go over forty hours even if it's just one minute, they complain about part time workers getting more than 25 hours even if it's one hour. They lied to us making it sound like this amazing job and it would be so rewarding. The cons have driven so many good employees away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Act like your subordinates are people worthy of respect. Stop stressing so much about part timer hours especially when we are busy. If you know nothing about that department, ask. If you aren't knowledgable on that department, listen to the workers in that department. When front-end is busy, we may not look busy in another department but ask if we can help. Don't assume we can just drop what we're doing to help and neglect our department duties.
