I worked at HNI as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

HNI culture is very welcoming. There is a lot of opportunity to grow within the company and challenge yourself

    Cons

The headquarters is in a very small community

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are exposed to senior leadership. As an intern, I was able to present my findings to several Vice Presidents and the CFO.

    I worked at HNI full-time

    Pros

People are excellent / managers are good with a great work ethic / the business units; Allsteel, Hon, etc. are solid businesses. Rapid Continuous Improvement culture is

    Cons

The biggest obstacle to progress is the CEO, Askren. An individual who shows no respect to people, bullies them and acts condescending. He rules by fear and position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to stand up to tyranny. HNI will be better when the CEO is retired, and people are again truly valued.

I have been working at HNI full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you are new then its an ok place to work. Any time they implement pay increases generally it only affects the new members.

    Cons

Inconsistent work, HR is never around and hardly willing to help members when they are here. Hires anyone that is breathing. Make more per hour working fast food.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow more growth from within, increase pay and be more willing to help members.

I worked at HNI as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Give you lots of work and responsibility as an intern.
The culture of the company is great.
The leadership is helpful and the lunch n learns from MCR (HR) is good.
Lots of things for interns to do.

    Cons

Location. But close to Iowa City and Quad cities so it is not that bad.
Sometimes miscommunication in management so as an intern I had nothing to do.

I have been working at HNI full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

New members get decent pay, a lot of overtime during the busy season. Seasonal workers get paid very generously.

    Cons

Management plays favorites making promotions a pain to get. No Supervisors want to follow the training process so members are rushed in to performinng the job. Have never seen upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't ignore seasoned members. Don't play favorites and care about your members.
