Over Worked

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON

I worked at H&M part-time for more than a year

ProsDiscount (25%)
Management is very flexible with time off, and understanding
Friendly co-workers (in my case)

ConsNEVER ENOUGH PEOPLE ON THE FLOOR/ ALWAYS CUTTING HOURS (I cannot stress how many times Ive talked to human resources and district managers..NOTHING helps)
Getting out as late at 11:45 (we close at 9pm)
Complaining customers over not having anyone help them
Stress, stress, stress
Overworked
Should definitely be paid more than minimum wage

Advice to Senior ManagementStop cutting hours and give us more people on the floor!!!!!!
You'll have less stressed out employees and happier customers (believe me)

Fun place to work

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Mississauga, ON

I have been working at H&M full-time for more than 3 years

Pros-flexibility
- good amount of breaks
- make lots of friends
- lots of things you can learn, can get good experience
- same level of management meaning everyone helps each other even the managers do what u do on the floor.

Cons- less coverage of staff on the floor all year round
- very slow growth.
- pay structure is low for part- time sales associates

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease try to act little faster when it comes to employee growth otherwise you will end up loosing all the good ones .

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Roller coaster ride. Inconsistency of management and HR are brutal.

Part-time Sales Advisor (Current Employee)
Toronto, ON

I have been working at H&M part-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat benefits and the staff. Nice clothes. Discount is decent.

ConsOverworked, hard to move up, head office is a joke. Values they push are not always attained so don't buy what they're selling. Too corporate but I'm guessing it's just in Canada.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to get organized and actually manage the stores so that there is consistency and good employee moral in the workplace.

Biggest Waste of 4 years!

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON

I worked at H&M part-time for more than 3 years

ProsDiscount, nice clothes, good people, fun meetings.

ConsNo opportunity for growth, very huge responsibilities with low pay, over-worked, never enough staff, horrible hours.

Biggest issue was that they never increased my wage as minimum wage changed. Essentially, with 3 years of experience my wage was the same as the new peoples due to the minimum wage jump! I pointed it out to my managers and they said "employees are not allowed to discus wage so this is incorrect!"

Advice to Senior ManagementTerrible job! Treat your employees better! I can see why there is such a turnover rate!

Not a terrible place to work overall but plenty of things to get you down

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Vancouver, BC

I worked at H&M part-time for more than a year

ProsExcellent colleagues, Great sense of teamwork, Train and promote from within, Open atmosphere with good communication, Encouraged to take ownership of your own career, Encouraged to dress your own style, Employee Dicount

ConsCan be stressful, Limits on hours available to managers often leave the store understaffed resulting in low morale and long closing times, Quiet times of the year can result in very little hours to go round, Part time staff are not guaranteed any hours, Favouritism from management results in lack of consistency over the treatment of all staff, Some staff with hopes of promotion are led on while others are quickly promoted before them

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't lead on staff who have no hopes of promotion. Be fair and consistent accross all staff. When hours are tight management should support sales staff more during busy times. A little appreciation as to how stressful the job can be at times would go a long way.

Great working experience!

Part-time Sales Advisor (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC

I have been working at H&M part-time for less than a year

ProsThis is a great place to gain some experience in the workforce. The goal is to work as a team so you and your colleagues are always working together to make the company the best it could be. It is an all-around positive environment and employees do everything they can to assure customers leave happy.

ConsIf you don't like moving around a lot, this isn't the place for you. This is a very busy company so if you're planning on being lazy, don't waste your time applying.

Fast-paced retail

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Montreal, QC

I worked at H&M part-time for less than a year

ProsConstantly moving, time flies by. 25% employee discount effective immediately, at any branch. Pretty liberal dress code. Very nice coworkers.

ConsThe ending shift, having to clean up all the mess (staying up to 1 hour after closing). Have to be pretty quick and deftly sorting through clothes all the time, everyday (I was indifferent, but it can get pretty mindless).
