    Google Tokyo

    Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Tokyo (Japan)

    ProsSmart people everywhere.
    Work in Tokyo, but without the bureaucracy of a typical Japanese company (no timecards! no fax machines!).
    Salary very high for a Tokyo-based job.
    Work at a Google, but without all the commuting of the main HQ.
    Make things people actually use.

    ConsSmart people everywhere.
    Getting overcrowded. Perks, kitchens are worse than in other Googles.
    Office essentially segregates the engineers from the non-engineers (different floors), gives it a weird feeling.
    Harder to get promoted higher than senior in a non-MTV office.

    Advice to Senior ManagementExpand your international offices, they're a competitive advantage against the other silicon valley giants.

    Best Company

    Software Engineer (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA (US)

    ProsThey «take care» about your health;
    They provide you many transports inside google;
    They provide you a nice salary, the best food;
    There are great people and great environments to work on;
    There are everything you need to play, think, rest, sleep.
    Inside Google, there's another world, on the other side of the universe. A better world that want to make the difference.

    ConsProbably you will not want to leave of your workplace (Google).

    Advice to Senior ManagementNothing to say about this.

    Wonderful Place

    Software Engineer (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA (US)

    ProsBenefits, perks, interesting projects, learning and growth opportunity. Google offers a lot of career development, and even a lot of entertainment onsite.

    ConsOverheads of checking in codes, politics in certain groups. Sometimes people are spending a lot of time working just on trivial stuff.

    Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on technical stuff

    Adwords Associate (Former Employee) Dublin, Dublin (Ireland)

    ProsGreat graduate position
    A foot in the door at a large multinational
    Amazing talented people to work with
    Lots of perks - free food, nap pods...all that stuff is true

    ConsDifficult to stand out in an environment of over-achievers

    Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your high performers, make the most of their skills, and promote them accordingly. Try not to get lost in red tape!

    Good, Needs Help

    Software Engineer (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA (US)

    ProsThe interesting projects and people are a huge pro for me. The salary is extremely good as well. I'm very excited to see the Company's future.

    ConsWork/Life Balance is extremely hard. I don't know why they insist on turning us into slaves. If you have a bad manager, your experience will surely be ruined.

    Still good pay, still a good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsPay
    Work
    People

    That pretty much covers it. And here are a few more words so that glassdoor will let me submit.

    ConsNot quite as exciting as some other companies. Food isn't as good as it used to be. You might be exposed to the tiniest bit of politics if you make it high enough. Nothing but first world problems.

    Played a lot of ping pong

    Technical Sourcer (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

    ProsWorked with awesome people. Terrific perks and benefits. Fantastic learning environment. Loved the free food. I got to play a lot of ping pong.

    ConsYou're a small piece of a large machine. It's difficult to have impact.

    Advice to Senior ManagementThe contractor model for recruiters/sourcers doesn't work. You just train someone on best practices for a year, then send them directly to your competitors.
