I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - great culture
    - everyone likes to get to know everyone in the office (Canadian Office)
    - great salary package and compensation, Defined Benefit retirement plan, not too many companys doing that anymore
    - many opportunities to grow, if willing to move to Akron, Ohio, not too many or at all in Canadian office

    Cons

    - Company has been doing well since 2008 downturn, but continues to have layoffs as a cost cutting measure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - because of the numerous opportunities to grow, theres alot of people changing jobs within the company in Akron. Transition between people needs to be better, doesnt seem like person changing moving out of the position trains the person coming in very well enough to ensure a smooth transition

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good paying salary, great benifits we work 12 hr rotation shifts so you only work 14 days a month lots of time off.

I work with a great bunch of people and that really makes your job

    Cons

Cutbacks in order to save money sometimes means things don't get fixed right away

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe that you have forgotten the basics when it comes to the floor decisions at times you need to remember where you came from and how you got where you are.

I worked at Goodyear as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The people are very friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful, especially as there is a lot of on-the-job learning. It's a good place/position for an engineering student seeking industrial experience.

    Cons

It can be a dirty, fast-pace, and stressful environment in the manufacturing plant. Sometimes, a lot of things can go wrong, which delays any forward progress or experimentation engineers are seeking to achieve.

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great money once you hit full pay. When I started it took 1 year. But then it went to 30 months. They match what you put into 401k. Making that much money, its easy to get the best medical plan and other things that they provide. 7 day breaks once a month.

    Cons

Jobs are touch. I ran 17-2000 row. Anyone who knows the plant knows its hard work. But the money is worth it, if you can hang in there long enough to get it. Long hours. Depending on your job, you become so tired at work, that your days off, you sometimes just want to sleep.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy to be star as very little process and cost focus exists, and people try to keep heads down
Can find one specific area / silo and can stay under radar if that is your style

    Cons

    Does not like change
Command and control style of management
Not good place for new grads with the exception of design engineering
    Very siloed organization
    Not very loyal to employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of your old ways and do something different

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

At least at my shop, they were able to work around my school schedule
Pay is hourly unless you are a flag tech, and there are commission bonus which if you can hit 40 hours is equal to a 5$ raise... for a starting out tech, its not bad but gets old really fast for what you have to deal with
if you stay for longer than a year, its for the benefits... medical, dental, and vision are out of this world

    Cons

Management couldn't be worse, everything is bonus driven, and getting new equipment for shops is met with a glacial pace unless your managers will take hits to their store profits... good luck with that
If you have a tech that has been there for more than 10 years, he runs the shop... the managers are just stooges that cater to his whims
The ability to get fired without any warnings
The customers are borderline mentally handicapped
work is ebb and flow so who knows what you'll be doing week to week
if you aren't management, you are expendable
company policy is that you can't have 2 days off in a row

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

eliminate district managers, those guys couldn't lead a store out of a wet paper bag
treat your service techs and maintenance techs better
stream line your processes for new equipment
eliminate middle men, and give us a wage to live on
