I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company provides a great training program and is very flexible with its employees. It respects the ones that do a good job. Pay is pretty good for the job.

    Cons

I dont really have any con's about working there. I guess I could say that they keep up under a certain amount of hours so you are not considered a full time employee.

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with good people most of the time Pay scale was competitive. Flexable work schedule is desirable. constant and steady work is always there.

    Cons

advancements are considered by who you know, not what you know. Your accomplishments are overlooked, credit goes to the wrong person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to reliable, honest, and hard working employees when they give their all, tell you their heartfelt opinions,

Former Employee - Contractor in Pittsburgh, PA (US)

I worked at Giant Eagle as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

The management works with employees to find the best roles for them to succeed. They often promote in-house, and care about the work the company does. They are very flexible with employees schedules, and have been setting up more time for employees to work from home. Certain department heads really show their appreciation for their employees, especially when they go above and beyond.

    Cons

Benefits and labor force have gone up and down over the last decade, mostly reflecting the broader economy. The pay isn't superb.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The surprise layoffs cause some underlying resentment in employees.

    Pros

Pays the bills, close to home, fuel perks

    Cons

If your female you might as well forget trying to advance, I've been at giant eagle for 5 years now and have been denied twice and.picked over for a man, also some managers are just bullies and like to pick on employees for no reason

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers should recognize good employees and allow them to advance not just the ones that kiss butt alot

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I can't think of anything that stood out about the job or company that I really liked.

    Cons

The training at this company is horrible. They give you the basics for the job to get by. Everything else you will have to hope you hear by word of mouth before you get into trouble for not know you were or were not supposed to do something. There is a huge separation between corporate and retail employees. If you're retail you basically have no say in things and you just have to deal with what is sent down the chain of command. The company culture in the retail side isn't very good. Especially in GetGo. There are a lot of sarcastic and negative people who get pissed off all the time but for some reason stick with the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Giant Eagle needs to put a greater focus in training and listen to the retail employees more. The team member survey is not good enough. I think the CEO needs to come speak with managers at the stores more often.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay (I make more than my friends in fast food)
Great benefits (Health insurance for part time is literally unbeatable)
Can get off almost any day once seniority is established
Can work any shift you desire

    Cons

    No chance in moving up
    Very hard to change departments
Managers never seem to have good ideas and change things that don't need to be changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing things so much and let us do our jobs the way we have been. Change is supposed to make things easier/better not more difficult.

    Pros

    Benefits, flexibility. Some coworkers

    Cons

Favoritism. Everybody gets the same. Hard work or lazy. Management pleases the customer to no end, even if totally uncalled for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize hard, smart workers. Reprimand lazy workers who refuse to do their part. Promote from within. Stop playing favorites.

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flex time was great, partial work from home was awesome, regular merit increases, company-wide performance bonuses were a great perk.

    Cons

IT Management didn't buffer work requests from Marketing. Continually moving the goalposts made it impossible to not be in crisis mode all the time. Work from home is taken away depending on projects, whether or not you're collaborating with other developers.

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

work-life balance is not functional. Upper management aka district etc. does not care if salary works for weeks without day off.
